  • Patent number: 4379399
Abstract: A tube bender construction for manual operation in bending a tube. The tube bender includes a mandrel defining a bending groove into which the tube is urged by a forming member mounted to the mandrel to swing about a bending axis of the bending groove. The tube to be bent is held against longitudinal and rotational movement during the bending operation by tube holding structure arranged to clamp the tube against an extended groove portion of the mandrel. Movement of the forming member about the bending axis is effected by manipulation of a pair of handles. The tube clamping structure includes a hook which is swingably mounted to the mandrel and adjusting structure is provided for adjusting the disposition of the swingable hook to provide a desired clamping force of the hook against the tube. The illustrated adjusting structure includes an eccentric pin and structure for locking the pin in adjusted positions.

  • Patent number: 4362044
Abstract: The invention contemplates a pipe-bending technique wherein an arcuate die which determines the course of bending the central axis of the pipe relies solely upon two tangentially engaging developing lines of contact which are spaced equally, at opposite offsets from the radial plane in which the pipe axis is bent. For the case of pipe bending to a circular arc, the opposed die faces are generally conical, and there is no pipe contact with the die in the range between the spaced developing lines of tangential contact.

  • Patent number: 4043165
Abstract: A three-point, air-bending sheet metal bender comprising a pair of elongated U-shaped finger dies mounted parallel to one another is disclosed. The elongated finger dies are mirror images of one another (when appropriately aligned) and, prior to bending, are spaced from each other by an amount generally equal to the thickness of the sheet of metal to be bent. The elongated finger dies are laterally position adjustable such that the "finger" of one die is alignable with the "palm" of the other die and vice versa; i.e., the finger of each die is alignable with the palm of the other die. During bending, the "finger" die remains fixed and the "palm" die rotates. As the palm die rotates, sheet metal located between the two dies is bent. The direction of bending, with respect to the plane of the sheet of metal prior to bending, is determined by the die that is chosen to rotate.
