  • Patent number: 5357663
Abstract: In a slide fastener coupling element forming apparatus, a blank wire of a generally Y-shape cross section intermittently supplied at a predetermined pitch is cut off into pieces of a predetermined thickness by a fixed cutting punch and a reciprocating cutting die, and then a bulge for the head portion of a coupling element is formed by a forming die and a forming punch movable upwardly and downwardly to coact with the forming die. The forming die is located to be connected with the forward end in the stroke direction of the cutting die, and the forming punch is located upwardly of the bulge forming station. Then the opposite leg portions of a coupling element are pushed out of the mold of the forming die by a vertically movable ejector pin located under the leg portions on the forming die to discharge the formed coupling element from the forming die.

  • Patent number: 5353625
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a terminal crimping machine which assures that undesirable bending of a cable caused due to the fact that a terminal firmly fitted into a crimper is raised up together with the crimper after the time of terminal crimping is reduced as far as possible. A terminal crimping machine includes a crimper 3, an anvil 4 located opposite to the crimper 1, and a stopper 13 composed of a terminal disconnecting piece 14 and an arm piece 15, and the arm piece 15 is turnably disposed on a guide frame 11 of the ram 2 to turn about a pin 12. A tension spring 20 is bridged between the arm piece 15 and a spring fixing piece 19. As the ram 2 is lowered, it comes in slidable contact with the arm piece 15 so as to allow the arm piece 15 assume an upright attitude. At this time, the terminal disconnecting piece 14 is located at the terminal disconnecting position higher than the anvil 4 by a predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 5155901
Abstract: An apparatus and method for precisely positioning an integrated circuit lead frame is disclosed. This apparatus includes a positioning post that cooperates with an index hole in the lead frame, and a lower spring finger. The index hole of the lead frame is placed over the positioning post, and the opposite or bottom side of the lead frame rests on the lower spring finger. An upper spring finger is then brought down on top of the lead frame, aligning with the lower spring finger. As the two spring fingers press against the lead frame, the deflection of the two spring fingers cause the lead frame to move slightly and causes the positioning post located in the index hole to function as a mechanical stop of the deflection movement of the lead frame thereby achieving a very accurate positioning of the lead frame.

  • Patent number: 4956008
Abstract: An apparatus for superplastric forming of metallic workpieces and, more particularly, aluminum workpieces is disclosed. The apparatus includes a mechanism for ejecting the workpiece from the die upon completion of the superplastic forming process. A steel liner covers the surface of the die cavity, and the workpiece is formed against the liner (which acts as a die surface). The steel liner has high temperature resistance at superplastic forming temperatures providing it with sufficient rigidity to enable it to be removed from the cavity at or near superplastic forming temperatures while still retaining its shape and that of the formed worpiece which it supports. In one embodiment, a cam operated ejection mechanism pushes the liner from the die cavity surface as desired at the end of the superplastic forming process. In another embodiment, the die is provided with apertures through which pressurized gas is directed toward the liner pushing the liner away from the die cavity surface.

  • Patent number: 4819476
Abstract: Tooling system for a forming machine has a continuous guide passageway in which first and second tooling assemblies are contained for movement towards and away from each other. The passageway has passageway surfaces which serve as bearing and guiding surfaces for the tooling assemblies. Each of the tooling assemblies has a ram member and a tool holder mounted on the ram member. Additionally, a face plate is provided on one of the tooling assemblies at the leading end thereof and is movable relative to the leading end between a retracted position and an extended position. When in its extended position, it is spaced from the ram so that tools, such as punches have their ends in openings in the face plate. When the tooling assemblies move against strip material positioned therebetween, the punches or similar tools move from the face plate and perform operations on the strip. The kicker bar is positively reciprocated by a cam assembly that is synchronously engaged with the crankshaft, which operates the press slide, such that an end of the kicker bar cyclically moves at a first rate of movement from a first position outside the forming station to an intermediate position wherein the end contacts a part to be ejected.

Abstract: Apparatus and a method for processing a semiconductor lead frame, such as deflashing a plurality of molded chip housings on the lead frame as they move along a predetermined path. A support has a pair of sides, and a track on each side respectively, one track guides lead frames upwardly in a first stack to a position laterally aligned with a die on a vertically movable die plate. The other track receives processed lead frames and allows the processed lead frames to be lowered in a second stack. A reciprocal shuttle member extending between said tracks strips off the uppermost lead frame from the first stack and moves it into a position beneath the die which is then lowered by a power device sequentially to process, i.e., deflash, the lead frame. Then, the die elevates, allowing the shuttle member to reverse so that it can pick up the top lead frame from the first stack to advance it along with the processed lead frame laterally, the processed lead frame being movable onto the second stack.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling the spacing between a metal forming punch and a die pad in which the method includes supporting the work-piece on a fluid supported pad and the periphery of the work-piece on a fluid supported sleeve, engaging the workpiece with a forming punch and, during a portion of the travel of the forming punch, moving the pressure sleeve and the support pad for the central portion of the workpiece simultaneously while maintaining the spacing between the top of the pad and the bottom of the punch. The apparatus includes a die pad riser attached to the pad and to a pressure sleeve, both of which are movable in response to movement of the punch during a portion of the travel of the punch. The pressure sleeve is secured to the die pad riser so that the spacing between the punch and the die pad is maintained during such movement.

Abstract: A one-armed ejection lever of a coining press is adapted to be controlled in one end section directly by the coining ram by way of a connecting rod and in the other end section by an operating piston-cylinder unit. The center portion of the ejection lever is placed by way of a pressure bolt against the projecting end of an ejection rod. The abutment pressure is produced by the operating piston-cylinder unit whereby the ejection coining die is able to yield by way of the ejection rod, for example, in case two pieces to be coined are in the coining tool in order to avoid damages. For multiple coining, it is additionally possible to act upon the operating piston cylinder unit in the opposite direction and to effect therewith an intentional lifting-off of the pressure bolt from the ejection rod.

Abstract: An apparatus for forming a shaped part from a work includes two members spaced away from one another which define a pressure zone. First and second dies clamp the work therebetween, and a first roller conveyor transports at least one of the dies along a transport direction. A holder restrains the members from yielding along a direction transverse to the transport direction. At least one of the members defines an inclination with the transport direction, so as to cause the pressure zone to converge along the transport direction. A drive mechanism drives the dies to the pressure zone, and away therefrom; one of the dies includes a plurality of adjoining pressure-transferring elements.
