  • Patent number: 11373404
Abstract: Metadata for highlights of a video stream is extracted from card images embedded in the video stream. The highlights may be segments of a video stream, such as a broadcast of a sporting event, that are of particular interest to one or more users. Card images embedded in video frames of the video stream are identified and processed to extract text. The text characters may be recognized by applying a machine-learned model trained with a set of characters extracted from card images embedded in sports television programming contents. The training set of character vectors may be pre-processed to maximize metric distance between the training set members. The text may be interpreted to obtain the metadata. The metadata may be stored in association with the portion of the video stream. The metadata may provide information regarding the highlights, and may be presented concurrently with playback of the highlights.

  • Patent number: 11373405
Abstract: Data processing systems and methods are disclosed for combining video content with one or more augmentations to produce augmented video. Objects within video content may have associated bounding boxes that may each be associated with respective RGB values. Upon user selection of a pixel, the RGBA value of the pixel may be used to determine a bounding box associated with the RGBA value. The client may transmit an indicator of the determined bounding box to an augmentation system to request augmentation data for the object associated with the bounding box. The system then uses the indicator to determine the augmentation data and transmits the augmentation data to the client device.

Abstract: An interactive video distribution system and video player are described. A client server arrangement may be used for providing a video player and video content to a client device. The video player may display navigation images enabling navigation to specific portions of the video content by activating a corresponding navigation image. The video player may also enable the sharing of a segment of the video with other video players, enabling the video players to play the streamed segment of the video without having to play the entire video, thereby reducing network bandwidth usage. The video player may be embeddable. The server may associate searchable tags with respective video segments.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for optimizing bandwidth for broadcast transmission. The disclosed techniques herein provide for receiving first and second content for transmission to subscriber devices on a first and second channels. The system then determines whether the first and second content contain a common segment. If so, the system updates metadata schema (e.g., homogeneous channel descriptor, homogeneous switch descriptor) to indicate there is a common segment. The system may generate a transport stream during multiplexing of the first and second channels based on the updated metadata schema. The transport stream, for a time duration based on the at least one common segment, includes a first audio feed of the first content and a first video feed of the first content to be provided on the second channel. The system then transmits the transport stream to the one or more subscriber devices.

  • Patent number: 11153614
Abstract: An ad in a movie can be a static ad having a position in the movie that cannot be moved, or a dynamic ad having a position in the movie that can be changed. When a viewer wishes to skip a portion of the movie containing the ad, the playback system determines whether the ad is static or dynamic. If the ad is static, only the portion of the movie preceding the static ad can be skipped; the ad is unskippable. This technique is referred to as “bounceback” since the end of the skip bounces back to the start of the static ad. If the ad is dynamic, it is moved to after the end of the skip. This technique is referred to as “slip-ad” since the ad slips to later in the movie. When a movie has multiple ads, some can be static and some can be dynamic.

  • Patent number: 11128693
Abstract: An Internet infrastructure delivery platform (e.g., operated by a service provider) provides an overlay network (a server infrastructure) that is used to facilitate “second screen” end user media experiences. In this approach, first media content, which is typically either live on-demand, is being rendered on a first content device (e.g., a television, Blu-Ray disk or another source). That first media content may be delivered by servers in the overlay network. One or multiple end user second content devices are then adapted to be associated with the first content source, preferably, via the overlay network, to facilitate second screen end user experiences (on the second content devices).

Abstract: Customers receive an incentive with use of an installed cellphone app to image an AR-bearing ad. Matches between data from the customer's accounts for each merchant are compared to the data in association with the customer's logical identifier for their cellphone, and particularly with each incidence of a rendering on their display screen of an AR view of a product advertisement containing the AR-triggering symbol to initiate the corresponding AR enhanced view of the ad. In conjunction with chronological time stamping of occurrences, a likelihood is derived that the customer's viewing of the AR enhanced product advertisement influenced the potential customer's subsequent purchase of the corresponding advertised product as evidenced within the potential customer's rich transactional data from the customer's debit and/or credit accounts. The certainty of each match is determined to further initiate the merchant's incentive to the customer which may be the merchant's donation to a community program.

Abstract: An audience proposal creator determines a target cost per thousand (CPM) baseline and a demographics CPM baseline for a deal offering audience spots, determines deal constraints based on a target CPM reduction goal, a demographics CPM cap, and the established parameters, and generates rates by selling title for each selling title-weeks for a duration of pending deal, and for each network of a plurality of networks based on the constraints. Target and demo audience rating estimates are acquired based on the target and demo applicable to the advertiser for the plurality of networks, and a distribution of the audience spots generated across the plurality of selling title-weeks, and networks based on the target audience rating estimates, a budget for the pending deal, the generated rates, and available inventory per selling title-weeks, and a proposal generated based on the distribution.
