Rear End (e.g., Differential) Patents (Class 73/115.06)
  • Patent number: 11225148
Abstract: A target value obtaining section obtains a target value for the difference in rotational motion between a first motor and a second motor and a target value for output torque. A torque command value calculating section calculates a torque command value for the first motor and a torque command value for the second motor that achieve both of the target value for the difference in rotational motion and the target value for the output torque by using an inverse model of a motion model corresponding to a merging system.

  • Patent number: 9766157
Abstract: The present invention in one or more embodiments provides a device to measure backlash of an equipment powertrain, where the device includes a head to attach to the equipment powertrain, and a body to support the head, the body including a first connector via which a predetermined amount of torque is to be applied to the equipment powertrain through the body and the head, and a positional change of the equipment powertrain in response to the predetermined amount of torque being indicative of a backlash measurement.

  • Patent number: 9459178
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method of checking an alignment between a first gear and a second gear using a tool is provided. The tool includes a base portion defining a longitudinal axis and an elongate portion extending from the base portion along a transverse axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Further, the second gear is received in an inner bore of the first gear. The method includes inserting at least partially the base portion of the tool within an inner bore of the second gear. The method also includes inserting a first pin extending from the elongate portion within a space between adjacent teeth of the first gear. The method further includes determining that the first gear is aligned with the second gear if a second pin extending from the elongate portion is received within a space between adjacent teeth of the second gear.

  • Patent number: 8550704
Abstract: A method of detecting an omission to fill an automobile differential housing with fluid in the course of an assembly procedure is carried out using an infrared sensor to read differential housing temperature. The camera produces an electrical signal that is processed to provide an indication as to whether or not the differential housing has been properly filled. An infrared sensing camera is the preferred thermal detector.

  • Patent number: 7712358
Abstract: A drive line (A) for testing a component (D) of a drive train of a vehicle comprises a torque sensor. The torque sensor measures AC variations in torque due to the operation of the component (D). The component (D) is coupled to the drive line by an adapter having a coupling for coupling the drive line to the axle. The torque sensor may output both AC and DC components of measured torque variation. A servo controller controls the drive line so that the drive line is driven into abutment with the axle and then backed off by a small preset distance.
