Abstract: A system and device that provides for the retention of a sensor shield for a sensor such as a microphone, hydrometer, chemical sensor, or other detector. This invention provides for the quick attachment and release of a reduced visibility and reduced bulk shield retention assembly. In a battlefield environment, a smaller profile sensor shield presents less visibility as a prospective target of interest to enemy forces. Also, the sensor shield may be readily replaced without the use of any tools. The snap-lock feature provides a positive means for holding, for example, a windscreen in its respective position, requiring reasonable, but yet not objectionable force to install and remove the windscreen from the sensor's mounting shaft. Furthermore, the snap-lock feature, when engaged, may provide positive location of the sensor shield's sweet spot by maintaining a slight air space between the sensor shield and the sensor, and thereby precluding direct physical contact.

Abstract: A duct detector housing includes a housing cover and a housing body having a gas inlet and a gas outlet. The gas inlet is in fluid communication with a gas conveying duct. The housing body is adapted to have a detector therein and being complementary to the cover to form an interface therebetween. A binary mode securement mechanism for securing the cover to the housing body in either only an open or closed position is provided to overcome the uncertainty with conventional housings as to the integrity of the closure. A process for ensuring a cover is closed against a housing body of a duct detector housing includes placing the cover in complementary contact with a surface of the housing body and engaging the binary mode securement mechanism to provide only binary either positive or completely an open or closed position for the cover relative to the housing body.

Abstract: Provided is a sensor structure capable of improving the reliability of connecting parts of electronic components and achieving excellent productivity and reduction in size and weight, for example, when electronic components are externally mounted on input/output terminals of a sensor. A relationship between a linear expansion coefficient for a housing serving as a base of a structure and a linear expansion coefficient of a resin material for a sensor casing of a sensor to be mounted is set to satisfy “sensor casing<linear expansion coefficient a<housing”. When electronic components are externally mounted, the electric components are mounted on input/output terminals which are integrally formed on the side of a component having a small linear expansion coefficient, i.e., on the side of the sensor casing.

The housing system includes a housing body and a transducer positioned within the housing body, and one or more flexible members sealably mounted on the housing body. The flexible members each have one or more undulations which facilitate movement of the flexible member in directions primarily perpendicular to the surface of the flexible member. The dimensions of the one or more undulations are designed so as to optimize the ability of the movements of the member thereby accommodating volume changes in the sealed housing. A substantial amount of compensating material can also be positioned within the housing body. The compensating material has a coefficient of thermal expansion substantially less than that of the housing material.
