Handles Patents (Class 74/557)
  • Patent number: 4848502
Abstract: A constant vehicle speed retaining device for motorcycle, comprising a control mechanism connected to a cable provided between a throttle valve and a throttle grip, for controlling the angle of opening of the throttle valve during the time interval between a constant speed control command and a cancellation command. A set switch generates the constant speed command, and a cancellation switch generates the cancellation command to the control mechanism. The cancellation switch is located near the throttle grip and operates in response to rotation of the latter in a decelerating direction.

  • Patent number: 4821597
Abstract: An operating crank for a window regulator mechanism includes a one piece molded handle having a visible side and a non-visible side when mounted at one end to a driven mechanism. A knob is rotatably attched to the visible side of the other end of the handle by an attachment located generally in the area where the knob is gripped by an operator. The attachment includes a series of molded ribs on a shank which extends axially from the visible side of the handle and which rotate within a groove inside the knob. The knob retention ribs extend radially of the shank and are molded integrally to the shank by means of a die insert receivable through access slots defined through the knob end of the handle from the non-visible side of the handle, giving access to the coplanar bottom surfaces of the knob retention ribs. The retention ribs may thereby be molded without leaving a visible parting line on the visible side of the handle.

  • Patent number: 4765023
Abstract: Disclosed is a safety handle for turning a hand control wheel. The handle is engaged by exerting constant axial pressure on the handle in a swung-out position, which enables the hand control wheel to be turned. Upon release of the handle, it automatically swings back to the retracted position into the hand control wheel. The handle is locked in the wheel-turning position by way of a shoulder/detent engagement.

  • Patent number: 4626454
Abstract: A decorative fitting having an internal layer as well as a method of fabricating it are disclosed. Preferably, the color layer is a very thin color wall dimensioned so that when it is viewed at one angle it gives the appearance of being a solid wall, yet when it is viewed at another angle it is substantially transparent. To make the color wall, one preferably forms a frame on a first substantially transparent panel such that the frame projects out from the first panel surface. One then abuts a second substantially transparent panel against the frame so as to form a color material insert cavity point, one injects a flowable colored material/adhesive mixture into the cavity and permits the colored adhesive to harden and bind the panel walls together. Thereafter, one cuts the transparent panels into a multiplicity of handle components by cutting the walls along lines partially transverse to the color layer. This forms multiple handle components which are a sandwich of the walls with the color layer in between.

  • Patent number: 4549069
Abstract: An electrically heated cover for the steering wheel of an automobile, truck, power boat, aircraft, and the like, which is readily snapped onto the outside of the rim of the wheel. The cover includes an annularly extending sleeve parted along a line facing and parallel to the rim of the steering wheel to permit the sleeve to be readily mounted and removed. The sleeve is comprised of inner and outer separated covers joined at both parting edges and contains an array of electric heating elements arranged in parallel and embedded in layer of thermally conductive, electrically insulative material. A layer of thermal insulation is disposed within the covers between the heating elements and inner cover for inhibiting the flow of heat into the steering wheel. Electric power is supplied to the electric heating element through the circuitry to a horn switch on the steering wheel and is controlled by an illuminated switch on a horn cover on the wheel.

  • Patent number: 4338827
Abstract: A floatable marine winch handle is disclosed that is suitable for use on sailing vessels incorporating the utilization of manual sailboat winches required for the raising of heavy cloth sails. The floating marine winch handle is comprised of a hollowed tubular design which is rigid enough to withstand the necessary stress requirement and is of light weight which enables it to displace its weight in water thereby rendering the winch handle retrievable when accidently dropped overboard from a vessel.
