Abstract: An adapter for an impact tool that securely holds a standard size socket. This adapter can be similar to a drill chuck and contain a locking mechanism to hold a socket. The adapter can be made to slip onto the impact tool just like any other tip or adapter. The adapter locks on the end of the impact tool. The socket receiving end resembles the mechanism of a standard socket wrench. Instead of the ball found on many socket wrenches, the present invention can contain a depressable pin with a tip that inserts into the socket. An edge on the pin provides positive protection against fall off even under extreme shock loads. The adapter can be supplied with different sized shanks to fit standard socket insert sizes. The adapter can optionally be used as an extension and manufactured in different lengths.

The driving end includes a peripheral wall portion having six inner faces on an inner periphery thereof for coupling with and driving the fastener A recessed portion is formed between a pair of inner faces adjacent to each other. The peripheral wall portion further includes six concave outer faces on an outer periphery thereof and respectively opposite to the inner faces. A convex gripping portion is formed between a pair of concave outer faces adjacent to each other. The concave outer faces and the convex gripping portions form a non-smooth outer periphery of the peripheral wall portion to allow firm grip by a user.

Abstract: A wrench includes a handle and an open-end with two jaws and each jaw has a driving surface. Each driving surface has a contacting area and two yielding areas. The contacting area is located between the two yielding areas and includes a contact portion and two notches. The contact portion is located between the two notches, and two extension areas each are connected between the yielding area and the notch corresponding thereto. A corner is formed at a joint area of the contact portion and an inside of the notch so as to bite a rounded fastener head. The contact portions are matched with straight sides of a normal fastener head.

Abstract: A socket receiver for a wrench assembly that is used with a socket having a longitudinal axis includes a receiver body and a socket retainer. The receiver body selectively receives the socket. The receiver body can include a proximal section, a distal section and a body aperture. The proximal section is shaped to inhibit the socket from rotating relative to the receiver body. The distal section is positioned so that the proximal section is between the distal section and the wrench body. The distal section is shaped so that the distal section does not inhibit the socket from rotating relative to the receiver body. The body aperture extends continuously through the proximal section and the distal section. In some embodiments, the socket retainer can encircle the receiver body. The socket retainer engages the socket to inhibit movement of the socket relative to the receiver body in a direction substantially along the longitudinal axis.

Abstract: A socket wrench (10) has tubular sections (20, 24) at its opposite ends separated by a center wall (26) that includes a non-circular socket (28) for receiving a complementary shaped end portion (30) of a turning tool (32). The tool (32) is inserted endwise through one end of the tool (10) and its end (30) is inserted into the socket (28) lug-receiving recesses (38) formed in the opposite end of the wrench (10) are moved to engage lugs (18) on a lug nut (12, 14). Each end of the socket wrench (10) is constructed to engage a different size lug nut (12, 14). At its longitudinal center, the socket wrench (20) is provided with wrench flats (46) for receiving the jaws (50) for an open-ended wrench (48). The end portions (22, 24) are preferably provided with knurling, serrations, or some other high friction surface that can be easily held so that a user can turn the socket wrench (10) by hand.

  • Patent number: 7340982
Abstract: Open-end symmetrical wrenches retain fasteners fully seated in the jaws of the wrench. The jaws have fastener-engaging surfaces with substantially planar and parallel sections that extend past the front side corners of the fastener when it is fully seated in the wrench and serrated diverging sections extending outwardly and rearwardly from these planar sections. The serrated diverging section may be arcuate or a slightly inclined. Both types of diverging section are designed to reduce slipping and are connected to rear corners of the fastener-engaging cavity that are designed and positioned to avoid contact with the rear side corners of the fastener. Arcuate rear side corners of the wrench cavity avoid contact with the rear side corners of the fastener and avoid stress concentration points. The throat that connects the corners has two gentle curves or flat surfaces leading to a central arc. This modified ā€œUā€ design provides more metal in the throat of the wrench, which stiffens the jaws.

Abstract: A hand tool consisting of an outer grip having an elongate inner housing formed therein engages with wing knobs used to tighten and loosen hanging file clamps. The outer grip is provided with a plurality of planar elongate gripping surfaces to enable a user to apply greater force to the wing knobs, which are frequently over-tightened by previous users. A pair of lattitudinally extending inner frame members are used to form two receiving areas for the wing knobs, a central elongate recess receives wing knobs of smaller diameter. By vertically recessing the upper surfaces of the inner frame members, wing knobs of greater diameter are received within the entire elongate inner housing.
