Patent number: 11691249Abstract: A push button release mechanism for coupling together two portions of a tool, such as pliers. The push button release mechanism can include a push button and one or more balls pushed in a radially-outward direction by geometry of the push button to pivotally couple the two portions together. The balls are normally pushed outward by an engagement portion. Depressing a push button head axially downward causes the balls to align with a receiving portion, which allows the balls to descend into the interior of the mechanism. The push button release mechanism is also threadably coupled with a threaded opening of one of the portions. The threaded opening can have deformed threads to increase the retention torque required to rotate the push button release mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2020Date of Patent: July 4, 2023Inventors: David T. Patent number: 8770067Abstract: Pliers with adjustable jaw span have a first member (1) and a second member (2) which cooperate with each other. A long slot (13) is formed in the first member (1). The second member (2) is connected with the first member (1) by means of a pivot (3) passing through the long slot (13), and rotatable around the pivot (3) relative to the first member (1), while adjusting the span of the jaws by varying the position of the pivot (3) within the long slot (13). The edge of the long slot (13) is provided with ratchet teeth (14). The pivot (3) is engaged with the ratchet teeth (14) by a pawl (31), thus the pivot is movable within the long slot (13) in a first direction and immovable in a second direction which is opposite to the first direction. The pliers are convenient to operate because when the position of the pivot (3) is moved within the long slot (13), the user's operation is required only for the movement in one direction.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2010Date of Patent: July 8, 2014Assignees: Hangzhou Great Star Industrial Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Great Star Tools Co., Ltd.Inventor: Jianping Qiu

Patent number: 8266990Abstract: A push button locking pliers has a plurality of macro jaw width stations for grasping a wide variety of objects. A positioning mechanism is connected to a movable jaw member having a pivot that cooperates with a jaw adjustment slot in the main handle. The positioning mechanism is released by pushing on a push button on the pivot against a spring allowing the movable jaw member to move along the slot. The user places the positioning mechanism at the jaw positioning station that creates a macro spacing between the fixed and movable jaws that best fits the object to be grasped. The push button is then released allowing the pivot to engage the rounded hole of the new positioning station. The pivot is made self centering on the rounded hole of the new positioning station by having a frustoconical section that engages the side of the hole even if the pivot is not centered on the hole.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2010Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Inventor: Paul M. Publication number: 20080110304Abstract: The present invention discloses a probe clamp used for removing a damaged probe. The probe clamp includes a container, a seizing head and a push rod, and the seizing head is sheathed onto a desired removing probe. If a force is applied to drive the push rod to withdraw the seizing head, then the damaged probe can be clamped tightly for the removal. The probe clamp of the invention not only can seize the damaged probe quickly and precisely, but also can clamp and remove the probe effectively, so that the probe will not slide or touch other probes that may result in damaging more probes. Therefore, the invention improves the working efficiency and reduces the consumption of probes effectively.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2006Publication date: May 15, 2008Inventors: Yu-Min Cheng, Wen-Ying Cheng, Min-Hsiang Sung

Patent number: 7299724Abstract: A tool includes a fixed operating lever and a pivoting operating lever that define handles that may be squeezed toward each other by a user to move the fixed and sliding jaws of the tool toward each other to grasp a workpiece. The fixed jaw is defined by the fixed lever. The sliding jaw is confined by the fixed operating lever. The position of the sliding jaw is limited by the operating levers, and its travel toward and away from the fixed jaw is defined by the operating levers. A biasing lever is operably connected to both operating levers. The biasing lever biases the jaws of the tool apart when there is no load applied to the tool and helps to transfer to the tool's jaws the force applied by a user to the tool's handles upon the engagement of a toothed pawl with a toothed surface of a slot within the fixed lever. The tool's jaws remain parallel to each other as they are moved toward or away from each other and while grasping a workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2007Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Inventor: Matthew W. Patent number: 7182004Abstract: An adjustable device for pliers includes an operation member movably extending through a through hole in the first part and a slot in the second part. The operation member includes an exterior smooth section and a toothed section which can be disengageably engaged with teeth defined in the slot to set the width between the two jaws. A spring is biased to the operation member and stopped by an end member which is connected to a positioning member mounted to the operation member. The operation member is pushed to disengage the toothed section from the teeth of the slot so that the two parts can be pivoted to adjust the two jaws to a desired width and the operation member is released which is pushed back by the spring to engage the toothed section of the operation member with the teeth of the slot.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2005Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Inventor: Chien-Kuo Wang

Patent number: 6378404Abstract: Self adjusting pliers for grasping a workpiece include first and second plier members each including a handle portion, a jaw portion, and an intermediate portion therebetween. The self-adjusting pliers include a first pivot pin about which the first and second plier members pivot permitting the jaw portions to converge on a workpiece and grasp the workpiece in response to initial movement of the handle portions toward each other. The self adjusting pliers further include a second pivot pin about which the pliers pivot once pivoting has been terminated about the first pivot pin so as to permit a further grasping force to be applied to the workpiece in response to continued movement of the handle portions toward each other. The second pivot pin is closer to the jaw portions than the first pivot pin to allow for a greater mechanical advantage to be obtained. The self adjusting pliers also include a biasing spring for biasing the handle portions away from each other and the jaw portions away from each other.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1999Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Big Ventures, L.L.C.Inventors: Alexander Bally, Eric R.
