  • Patent number: 6131495
Abstract: A tool includes two grips and at least one tool head. The grips can be opened to different extents so as to rotate the fixing pins of the grips relative to the openings of the tool head. Accordingly, the short sides of the fixing pins can be respectively aligned with the openings to permit the detachment of the grips from the tool head. Otherwise, the grips are stopped by the long sides of the fixing, pins from detaching from the tool head. The grips can be easily and quickly assembled with or disassembled from the tool head. In addition, the replacement of the tool head can be performed by hand without using any tool or switch. Also, the tool has fewer components which are not easy to miss.

  • Patent number: 6128943
Abstract: The present invention is an adjustment mechanism for both hand and production tools of any capacity. An eccentric pin mechanism provides the pivot between two handles or other load transferring members. The rotation of the pin moves the two members closer or farther apart, indirectly controlling the final position of the blades or jaws. This adjustment can be used to compensate for wear or to provide adjustment for a specific use. The eccentric pin is locked into position by means of a pressure pin mechanism. For light duty tools, this pressure pin mechanism would consist of a spring loaded pin which resists rotation of the eccentric pin during normal operation of the tool. The spring loaded pin would allow rotation of the eccentric pin when a tool is used to rotate it. For heavy duty applications, the pressure pin mechanism would consist of a solid set screw.

  • Patent number: 6098508
Abstract: An improved pliers having a first and second member. The first member includes a jaw operatively connected to a first handle, and the second member includes a second jaw operatively connected to a second handle. A slot is located in one of the members between the jaw and the handle. A pin in the other member extends into the slot and is secured therein to hold the members together while permitting relative motion between them. The slot may have different shapes but must be long and wide enough to allow the pin unrestricted motion. A projection extends from one of the members and engages a pivot area which may be a surface or a notch on the other member. In two embodiments of this invention, two pivot notches are used to give two different ranges of motion to the jaws. Different shapes of jaws may be used for specialized purposes, such as, opening pipe clamps or removing oil filters.

  • Patent number: 6019021
Abstract: A hand tool provides a slender elongated shape having a pair of finger actuation plates, one of which drives an interior rod. The end of the tool is adapted with a fixed jaw and a movable jaw attached to the interior rod. With the tool held in the manner of a pencil, the thumb and first finger are in position for moving the actuation plates so as to produce corresponding motion in the jaws. The tool allows the sensitive motion and tactile feedback inherent to the fingers to be transferred along the length of the tool for grasping, cutting and other useful actions.

  • Patent number: 6006633
Abstract: A pliers comprises a pair of elongated members having jaw portions, handle portions, and neck portions therebetween with the neck portions overlying each other and the jaw portions thereof having opposed clamping faces. One of the elongated members has a slot in its neck portion angled toward the handle portion from an imaginary line extending between the clamping faces, and a boss on the rear surface of its neck portion adjacent the imaginary line which abuts a shoulder on the rear surface of the neck portion of the other elongated member. The elongated members of the pliers may be fabricated as laminates of sheet metal elements. The boss/shoulder abutment provides a first pivot, and a pivot pin is movable from the end of the slot adjacent the imaginary line during opening of the jaws to abut the other end of the slot to provide a second pivot.

Abstract: In a pair of pliers where at least one of two shanks which carry jaws is built up of two spaced side-plates, is in at least one of the shanks a tapered section arranged rearwardly of a pivot point where the shank is attached to the other one. By the rearward location, which also allows a less steep taper, the tapered section is more spaced from the pivot point, whereby the danger of rupture upon heavy loading is diminished. Also the handles may be built up of spaced side-plates between which a stem portion of a protective grip with T-shaped cross-section is inserted.

  • Patent number: 4718317
Abstract: A hose coupling wrench apparatus includes first and second movable wrench members, each having a handle and an arcuate arm attached thereto. The arcuate arms of each wrench member have arcuate slots therein, and each has a hose coupling engaging portion on each end of each arcuate arm. A slider member connects the two arcuate wrench portions together in a predetermined spaced relationship to each other to allow the wrench portions to slide one relative to the other. The slider member has a pair of curved sliding blocks on each end thereof, with each block sliding in the slot of one wrench portion and supported on one side of the arm by the slider member and on the other by fastening members. The hose coupling wrench can engage hose coupling sections with each movable wrench member. One wrench member can be moved relative to the other to couple or uncouple a hose coupling.

  • Patent number: 4669340
Abstract: Slip-joint pliers have a pair of plier members each having a jaw portion and a handle portion, a pivotal bolt, a nut, and a spring member. The spring member is arcuate and has long and short downward projections. One of the plier members has a bolt whole and an annular groove including a through hole for accommodating the spring member therein. The other plier member has a bolt hole defined by first and second slip changeover holes communicating with each other and an engaging recess contiguously communicating with the first slip changeover hole. The short downward projection of the spring member abuts the wall surface of the through hole and the long downward projection contacts the wall surface of either the first slip changeover hole or the engaging recess to automatically bias open the jaw portions of the pair of plier members.

Abstract: A roller is mounted on a pivot pin connecting two operating handles. In operation, two further rolls or rollers mounted on two further pivot pins, each connecting a respective jaw lever to one of the operating handles, bear on this roller. The jaw levers pivot about fulcrum pins and are provided with closing jaws for closing a clamping seal used to join the ends of a packing ligature or band. The rollers relieve the pivots of load, so that the tongs containing the jaw levers are suited to the transmission of elevated forces.

  • Patent number: 4478532
Abstract: This invention pertains to an improvement in box joint tools and particularly for reducing play resulting from wear of the members forming the box joint. The box joint is formed in the usual manner. This improved joint is used when or where wear develops or may be utilized with new tools at the time of assembly. A first portion outer member of the box joint is machined to provide a counterbore and an enlarged bore in this member portion. A counterbore is also formed in the second outer member portion and extends to about one thirty second of an inch from a central jaw tongue portion. This counterbore provides a flexure portion with a smaller bore axially coincidental with the axis of the central portion. A pivot pin bushing has a threaded bore and is sized to be a press fit in the formed counterbore and enlarged bore of the first outer member. This bushing is mounted in the first outer member and the shank portion extends into the tongue portion of the central jaw.
