Abstract: A rotary slicer 20 for comestible products. A stationary magazine 26 supports a product upright as a rotary table 38 carries a rotary knife 40 in an orbit that passes beneath the magazine. A freely rotatable center plate 80 of the blade facilitates movement of the blade through the product. Orbiting movement of the blade is automatically stopped with the blade remote from the magazine and electrical interlocks 109, 112 prevent operation without all protective safety covers 24, 102, 106 in place. A removable sharpener 172 is attachable to the top of table and operates with the blade flush with the table top. A product follower 118 within the magazine holds the product in place and urges it downward during slicing. The follower in part extends outward between the magazine 26 and magazine cover 106 to allow manual movement and release from a latched raised position, after the magazine cover is closed.

  • Patent number: 4682524
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting stacks of flat workpieces, particularly of undershirt-shaped bags from stacked tubular film sections made of thermoplastic material and formed with side gussets and with top and bottom end seam welds. The apparatus includes a group of two punch-and-die sets, which are mounted in a transversely movable machine frame and include punches associated with drive means for moving the punches up and down, and die plates, which are fixed to the machine frame, and also includes a conveyor for intermittently feeding the stacks to and for removing them from the punches and dies. At least two punch-and-die sets and a drive motor associated with them are arranged in a row in a carriage, which is guided for reciprocation in the machine frame in a direction which is transverse to the direction of travel of the stacks. The carriage is adapted to be secured in the machine frame in two operating positions, in each of which at least one of the punch-and-die sets protrudes laterally from the machine frame.

  • Patent number: 4676130
Abstract: A carriage on the frame of a lumber edger is driven on tracks longitudinally from one limit to another. Two motors are arranged with their corresponding output shafts coaxial and facing each other. A saw blade is mounted to each shaft. The motors are mounted to laterally extending tracks on the carriage and actuators are provided for shifting the motors, and hence, the parallel saw blades toward and away from each other so that when the saws are translated longitudinally they will rip the irregular edges from a board. A chain conveyor runs through the machine frame and transports the boards to a position under the saws with the length of the boards directed longitudinally. When a rough board arrives under the saws the lines along which the saws will cut are marked on the board with parallel laser light beams. The saws are shifted laterally until the light lines are just inside of both rough edges.

  • Patent number: 4672871
Abstract: A pair of wire feed clamps are affixed to parallel flights of a pulley-supported steel cable which is axially driven back and forth by an oscillatably rotatable cable drum whereby the wire feed clamps, which reciprocably move in opposite directions, feed a wire strand along a first path. The cable drum is driven by a drive rod reciprocably movable by an orbiting crank pin on a support member which is adjustably mounted on a motor-driven rotatable feed crank. Crank pin orbit determines drive rod stroke, cable drum position, wire feed clamp spacing and travel, and wire segment length. A locking mechanism releasably locks the support member (crank pin) in desired adjusted positions. Two laterally spaced-apart conveyor assemblies, each having conveyor clamps for receiving the wire strand, convey severed wire segments along a second path perpendicular to the first.

  • Patent number: 4662255
Abstract: A paper salvage attachment assembly of a paper cutter utilizes a horizontally reciprocable infeed conveyor assembly having an endless conveyor belt which fees bound products to a position beneath the cutting blade of a paper cutter assembly. An outfeed conveyor and stop bar assembly supports the bound product during severance of the spine from the found product. An adjustably positionable stop bar assembly is used to position the vertically reciprocable stop bar at a point downstream of the cutting blade to properly position the bound product so that only its spine will be severed. As the spine is out, the infeed conveyor assembly is retracted away from the paper cutter so that the severed spine may fall through the thus created gap and onto a scrap take away conveyor.

The cutting wires lie in a plane extending at an acute angle to the plane of feed of the block. The cut block is then removed from the support. Feeding of the block onto the support and removal of the cut block from the supports occurs in a single plane and are effected substantially simultaneously by means of a pushing device. • Patent number: 4296660
Abstract: The device for feeding filter plugs to a demand drum comprises, in combination, a gravity-feed hopper containing a supply of multiple length filter rods, the hopper being closed, in correspondence of its bottom end, by a rotating fluted drum wherein each flute of the drum is capable of housing a filter rod. The filter rods, thus removed from the hopper, are cut into three filter plugs, which are delivered, axially aligned, onto a horizontal conveyor belt subdivided into three tracks. As a continuation of the conveyor belt there is provided a horizontal fixed sliding surface onto which the articles slide in three rows, each leading article of the three rows being pushed by the subsequent ones, until the leading article reaches an abutment member, where it is firmly positioned. Also the sliding surface is subdivided into three tracks.

  • Patent number: 4287798
Abstract: Opposed parallel supporting rollers of a log receiving and turning assembly are rotated in order to rotate the log received thereon. The rollers are carried by a frame which is lifted or lowered, as desired, and a bar between the rollers is tiltable so as to lift selectively one end of the log or the other. By such an arrangement, the log is oriented so that a pair of dogs engage the log from opposite ends. These dogs are carried by an overhead carriage assemblies which ride on tracks and are movable with respect to each other by means of a hydraulic cylinder. One dog is rotatable by a motor through 90.degree. so as to orient the log. The carriage assemblies are movable in a longitudinal direction so that a pair of saws, driven by motors, will simultaneously cut the logs on opposite sides so as to deposit the boards, when cut from the log, on respective conveyors which carry the boards longitudinally away from the saws. The saws are adjustable laterally for different widths of log.

Abstract: An upright rectangular frame longitudinally journals an axle supporting a plurality of spaced-apart circular saws. The axle is V-belt driven by an engine at one end of the frame. A feed conveyor, disposed laterally of the frame, moves logs deposited thereon toward the saws in response to a manually operated lever moving an idler pulley and tightening a flat belt entrained around a feed conveyor driving pulley and frictionally engaging a pulley on the axle. The sawed logs are moved out of the frame by a belt conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4198886
Abstract: An apparatus for deflashing a plastic article is disclosed. In operation, an operator places the article having flash in a nest which positions the article so that the flash is in a horizontal plane. A powered shuttle assembly picks the article up from the nest and places it upon an anvil. The anvil has striking edges which follow the line of juncture between the article and the flash. A punch apparatus is lowered onto the article and strikes the flash at the line of juncture disjoining the flash from the article. The power shuttle then removes the article without the flash to a discharge point. Optionally, at the discharge point, there may be provided an orientation assembly wich orients the deflashed article so that it may be placed upon a conveyor belt which carries the article to a collection point.
