Abstract: In a method and apparatus for rotating loose laminations in a loose lamination die, a strip is fed through the die to a rotatable blanking chamber of a blanking station. There, a punch engages with a die ring to punch a lamination free from the strip. The rotatable blanking chamber is biased in an upwardly direction. When the punch is not engaging with the die ring, the rotatable chamber is in an upward position wherein a gap develops between laminations retained at a bottom of the rotatable chamber, and those laminations lying directly below the rotatable chamber. The rotatable chamber can then be rotated without damage to the laminations at the gap because of the presence of the gap. Thereafter, a succeeding lamination can be punched after the rotation has occurred. As the punch engages the strip on top of the die ring, the rotatable chamber is pushed downwardly so that the gap at the bottom of the rotatable chamber disappears.

The nozzle hole plate of a fuel injector has a plurality of holes differing, for example, in size and punch direction with respect to the sheet blank. In the case of the manufacture of a nozzle hole plate, a first amount of nozzle holes of equal punch angle and size are formed continuously by a die unit in a bandlike sheet blank workpiece while the workpiece is fed through the die unit one way in its length wise direction. Then, the feed direction is reversed, and the die unit is rotated and a further amount of nozzle holes are formed continuously by the same die unit. Upon receiving an electrical impulse from the computer control, a solenoid valve releases an intermittent burst of compressed air through a tube to a housing which contains a plastic actuator, a plunger and a spring and which has several holes drilled in it to facilitate movement of said compressed air. • Patent number: 5794526
Abstract: In a die cutting press for elongated material, a registration system includes a die unit that is shiftable along the path of travel of the material, along a direction of travel transverse to the path of travel, and about a reference axis perpendicular to a plane containing the material. At least one camera is provided for receiving images from the desired locations that are occupied by indicia on the material when defined areas of the material are in a predetermined relationship relative to the die unit. Reference image data representative of the desired locations of the indicia relative to the die unit is produced so that a comparison can be made between the reference image data and the actual positions of the indicia.

  • Patent number: 5791216
Abstract: A sheet material 2 is cut with a round blade 10 and a notching blade 11. It is assumed that, in a straight section P1-P2-P3-P4, a distance between the end point P1 and the end point P2 is not shorter than a blade width W10 of the round blade 10, a distance between the end point P2 and the end point P3 and a distance between the end point P3 and the end point P4 are shorter than the blade width W10 and it is necessary to cut without cutting into a pattern piece indicated by shadow. A section between the end point P2 and the end point P3 can be cut without cutting into the pattern piece although overcut occurs on the end point P2 side, with the round blade 10 by aligning the leading edge thereof at the end point P3. A section between the end point P3 and the end point P4 is cut with the notching blade 11 because cutting with the round blade 10 causes a cut into the pattern piece at least from one of the end points.

  • Patent number: 5787775
Abstract: To adapt a punch press to cut work blanks, a cutting mechanism having a freely rotating cutting wheel is provided to a first support of the punch press while a corresponding die having a groove for mating with the cutting wheel is provided to a second support of the punch press. To operate, the cutting wheel is moved toward the die a given distance such that the cutting edge of the cutting wheel slidably mates with the cutting edge of the groove of the die to effect cutting of the workpiece. By synchronously rotating both the cutting wheel and the die to different orientations while maintaining their respective cutting edges aligned and in sliding contact with each other, by moving a worksheet relative to the cutter wheel and die, a multidirectional cut path may be effected on the worksheet.

  • Patent number: 5746101
Abstract: This invention pertains to a method and for cutting an intermediate article of manufacture, the intermediate article of manufacture being a cord reinforced elastomeric laminate. The laminate when cut to length, becomes a carcass for a pneumatic tire. The laminate is cut by a cutting element at angles .theta. greater than 60.degree. relative to a normal plane (NP) perpendicular to a cord reinforced ply of the laminate and parallel to the cords to thereby create large substantially flat planar splice surfaces without significant deformation or precuring of the unvulcanized elastomeric materials. To facilitate this cut, the relative position of the cutting element and the ply is changed to an angle .beta., .beta. being less than .theta.. The ply is cut a short distance, at the angle .beta., to position the cutting element between two parallel cords. Then the cutting element is reoriented to the angle .theta. to complete the cut.

  • Patent number: 5540126
Abstract: An automatic lay-up machine is disclosed for composite material article having anisotropic resistance in tension. A layer of fiber material, either unidirectional or fabric weave, is dispensed between a supply roll and a take-up roll. This material is advanced over a cutting table having at least one and preferably a plurality of cutting molds, each mold cutting a profile of a portion of an article being fabricated and leaving a continuous scrap webbing for gathering at the take-up roll. The material is placed under tension across the cutting table, compressed, and cut at the molds to extract the individual layers having the desired sections utilized in fabricating the article. This process is repeated with the molds indexing in rotation with respect to the material so that successive layers filling the molds align their respective fibers in varying directions.

Abstract: An open mesh material for use as a high performance RF reflective antenna surface and which is formed as a Leno type weave using electrically conductive composite yarns which have a construction for avoiding loose metal-to-metal contacts which generate undesirable passive intermodulation products (PIM). The composite yarns are formed by counter-wrapping stretch resistant nonconductive strands about an insulated metal strand and a stretch resistant nonconductive filler yarn. The insulated metal strand preferably includes a beryllium-copper wire which is encapsulated within a polyamide coating. The woven mesh is coated with a RF energy transparent silicone-based paint to provide additional insulation to the plastic coated wires at the weave junctions and has a surface resistivity sufficiently low to facilitate bleed off of building electro-static charges.
