  • Patent number: 5347901
Abstract: An inventive tube cutting apparatus includes spaced plates which allow modular mounting of the main components of the tube cutting apparatus. The various components can be replaced and matched with other components by either changing the position that the components are mounted on the plates, or replacing the plates. An accelerator utilizes an eccentric connection to a rotary motor to provide a relatively simple drive for the die set. In an alternative accelerator, a steel belt is reversibly rotated and is fixed to drive the die set. In a powerhead assembly for actuating the die set, a pair of spaced shafts are connected through two offset links to synchronize the shafts, and maintain parallelism of the ram as it is forced downwardly into the die set.

  • Patent number: 5245898
Abstract: A safe lift device for a slicing machine as provided which enables at least a portion of the slicing machine to be raised from the table or counter upon which it rests. Intermediate the two legs to be raised, a retention leg is pivotally attached to the slicing machine. Also connected to the slicing machine and the retention leg is a lever arm assembly. As the lever arm is raised, the retention leg descends toward the table or counter. Continued raising of the lever arm causes the retention leg to exert a downward force on the table, and thus an upward force on the slicing machine. A ratchet and pawl mechanism connected to the retention leg and the lever arm assembly allows the user to lock the lever arm while the slicing machine is in a raised position thus preventing the slicing machine from falling. A safety switch disenables the motor driving the slicing knife as soon as the machine is lifted approximately one inch or more.

  • Patent number: 5097734
Abstract: A system is disclosed for neutralizing the punching reaction forces in an open frame punch press in which inclined primary links mounted on the upper and lower frame members are stressed by linkage actuators during punching so as to counteract the punching reaction force. In one embodiment, a charging cylinder mounted to be acted on by the punch ram actuator generates hydraulic pressure used to operate linkage actuators. In that embodiment, the primary links are combined with secondary links to form toggle linkages to enable mechanical force multiplication of the force applied by the linkage actuators. In another embodiment the primary links converge and are pivotally connected at their rear ends to each other and a single secondary link, with a single cylinder at the forward end of one of the primary links, placing the primary links in tension during punching operations to neutralize the punching reaction forces acting on the press frame.

  • Patent number: 4523504
Abstract: A portable machine tool, comprising a base structure, a work surface supported by the base structure for supporting, in use, a workpiece, and a column pivotally connected to the base structure and being pivotal between an upstanding operative position in which the column extends upwardly above the work surface and a lateral inoperative position. An operating unit is attached to the column and is supported thereby above the work surface in the operative upstanding position for operating, in use, on the workpiece. A locking arrangement releasably secures the column in the operative upstanding position. Preferably the column is pivoted behind and to the rear of the base structure, and a part of the work surface is removable to expose a space inside the base structure in which the operating unit is at least partially housed when the column is pivoted to the inoperative lateral position. In this way the machine tool, which is preferably a radial arm saw, is made more compact for transporting and/or storage.

  • Patent number: 4399726
Abstract: A plastic tubing cutting device, to be used in the field or shop, and which severs in a clean way such tubing. A mandible having a channel in which the tubing seats is pivoted by means of a handle, the tubing engaging a severing blade in an upward pivotal motion for the mandible. The mandible is pivotally mounted on a vertical member of an inverted L-shaped frame which also includes a horizontally-disposed stabilizing element. The blade is secured between the vertical member and stabilizing element. The inverted L-shaped frame is secured to a rigid frame and extends forwardly thereof, the rigid frame including laterally extending balancing members for the device. Additional features of a locking means for the device when not in use, of a safety shield for the body and eyes against flying plastic fragments, and trough and guide for tubing seated in the channel, are provided.

Abstract: A panel grooving apparatus has a table for supporting a panel at a working level. A rail extends along a side of the table and a working assembly is mobile on that rail. The working assembly is selectively immobilized in various grooving positions by stops movable and selectively arrestable along the rail and engageable by part of said working assembly. The panel is releasably retained on the table by movable peripheral elements thereon. In a simplified embodiment, the working table may be reduced to a ruler on which a shoe of a rectilinear guide slides.

  • Patent number: 4377099
Abstract: A portable table assembly for a hand-held portable circular saw of the kind having a base plate and a motor rotated circular saw blade. A boxlike saw table has a substantially planar horizontal top pendently supporting the portable circular saw therebeneath with the blade rising up through a slot in the table top. The upstanding opposite sides of the upstanding rectilinear base of the table supports opposite edges of the table top. A boxlike, open bottom, back-up table is positionable behind the saw table for guiding portions of a workpiece cut by the saw and includes a horizontal top and upstanding rectilinear base with opposite sides supporting opposite edges of the top. Common, separable, knockdown leg units support both tables for use. The back-up table is invertable to nest the saw table therein and therewith to define a storage compartment sized to receive the knocked-down leg units for storage and transportation.

  • Patent number: 4344551
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting, cutting and dispensing heavy web sheet material such as cardboard, plastic film and the like, while in roll form. The apparatus includes a manually wheelable frame that can be selectively raised and lowered by a retractable handle at its rearward end to support the frame on a pair of front wheels for transporting the roll to the jobsite. Lowering the apparatus onto fixed rear legs supports the frame in a rest position for cutting and dispensing the sheet material. The frame has upright front and rear standards mounted in asymmetrical opposed relation on one side of the longitudinal center line of the frame. Thus, the roll is readily mounted in a stabilizing manner substantially along the frame center line by means of its roll axle shaft being supported on the inboard side of the standards.

A support for supporting a slice plate thereon is removably attached to the main body and is rotatable when not in use into an inoperative position in close proximity to the main body without being disconnected therefrom. A food clamp is removably supported on the slice plate. All these parts of the slicer can be held together in a compact shape around the main body for the storage or packing of the slicer. An electric cord connected to the motor can be held in a compact shape in the slice plate support. All the parts including the main body, except the motor housing, can be easily detached from one another and washed in a usual way to keep the machine in a sanitary condition.
