    Abstract: A pneumatic drive for actuating switchable devices such as valves and the like includes a cylinder and a cylinder base, the cylinder having an annular slot which extends in a plane transverse to the axis of the cylinder between an interior cylinder space and the outside. A piston is movable within the cylinder space and is connected to one end of a piston rod, the other end of the rod being coupled to the device to be actuated. A supply line communicates pressurized gas to the cylinder space to move the piston away from the cylinder base, while a spring biases the piston in the direction toward the cylinder base. An annular groove is formed in at least one of two annular surfaces which bound the annular slot in the axial direction, and a sealing ring is seated in the groove for axial movement so that the ring projects into the annular slot in response to pressurized gas communicated through a branch line into the closed end region of the groove.

    Abstract: An improvement in apparatus for lifting an agricultural implement carried by a tractor provides for automatic rapid level adjustment of the implement relative to the terrain under control of a valve system which comprises a regulator valve controlling inlet flow to the pump responsive to a comparator valve carried by the implement. A continuous throtted flow from the regulating valve to the comparator valve is maintained at constant pressure tending to open a valve in the comparator while a sensor or feeler contacting the ground serves to effect a greater or lesser opposing force. A servo valve is provided which effects a back pressure acting together with feeler actuation. An equilibrium position of the valve determines the level to which the implement is changed, holding it constant on level ground until the feeler is actuated by encountering a rise or fall in the terrain. The construction provides for varying the elevation of an implement by either raising it or lowering it to meet rise or fall of terrain.

    Abstract: In a hydraulic apparatus, operating oil delivered from a fixed delivery hydraulic pump is divided into two parts, one end of which is discharged into an oil tank by passing through a serial circuit of a normally open valve and an orifice and the other end of which is supplied to a piston-cylinder mechanism by passing through a parallel circuit of a normally closed valve and a check valve. When the normally closed valve is closed and the normally open valve is gradually closed, the piston is raised while gradually increasing in velocity. On the other hand, when the normally open valve is totally opened to stop the piston and the normally closed valve is gradually opened, the piston is lowered while gradually increasing in velocity. When the valves are operated to cause the piston to move vertically, the impact applied thereto at the time when the valve opening is large is largely mitigated by using the orifice.
