Patent number: 5179888Abstract: A control force input system for a balance beam pneumatic valve positioner which does not allow the controlled apparatus to make a full travel motion when the overall control signal is removed. The control force is transmitted to the balance beam or other force summing bar using a linear solenoid coupled to a control spring coupled to the balance beam. When the motive power control signal is removed from the linear solenoid, the balance beam establishes an equilibrium position based on the existing position of the linear solenoid. Split wedges are repelled from the linear solenoid when a control signal is applied, releasing the solenoid shaft for movement. Alternatively, split slides are repelled from each other when a control signal is applied, releasing the solenoid shaft bias spring. When the control signal is removed, the split wedges or split slides are biased and attracted to the solenoid, locking the solenoid shaft in position. A variation for use with a current to pressure transducer is detailed.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1991Date of Patent: January 19, 1993Assignee: Topworks, Inc.Inventors: Robert E. Schendel, Chris M. Patent number: 4867317Abstract: A positioning device is e.g. used for positioning the door of a motor vehicle in an opened position. The positioning device comprises e.g. a cylinder and a piston rod which extends inward and outwards of the cylinder through one end thereof. A flank face is provided at the inner wall surface of the cylinder. The piston rod carries a piston. The piston is provided with a counter-arresting ring which engages the flank face in a predetermined position. When the piston passes across the arresting flank of the cylinder, the counter-arresting ring is moved radially inwards with respect to the axis of the piston rod against elastic resistence. So, an increased resistance occurs against the axial movement of the piston rod with respect to the cylinder. This increased resistance against axial movement positions the door with respect to the body frame of a motor vehicle in a predetermined opened position and avoids that the door is closed unintentionally.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1988Date of Patent: September 19, 1989Assignee: Stabilus GmbHInventors: Willi Wildemann, Helmut Morgen, Castor Fuhrmann, Martin Siemann, Jurgen Kessler, Herbert Freitag

The apparatus, after assembly, is filled with hydraulic fluid, the two members of the connector being held momentarily engaged. After filling, the connector is broken, and the filled components are shipped to a user. After installation of the apparatus for operation of a mechanism such as a clutch release mechanism, the two connector members are reconnected, and the connector members having been provided with a one-way locking member can no longer be separated such as to preserve the integrity of the system.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1983Date of Patent: November 25, 1986Assignee: Automotive Products plcInventors: David J. Patent number: 4607670Abstract: A hydraulic control apparatus, more particularly for operating a motor vehicle clutch release mechanism, comprising a master cylinder, a slave cylinder and a conduit connecting the master cylinder to the slave cylinder. The apparatus is in the form of separate modular units which are separately filled with hydraulic fluid, and the filled modular units are shipped unconnected to a user. Each modular unit is provided with a leakproof quick-connect connector member, through which filling of the modular unit may be effected, and which mates with a complementary leakproof quick-connect connector member of another modular unit, such that after installation on a utiization device, a motor vehicle for example, complementary connector members are reconnected, thus opening ports in each connector member placing each member in fluid communication with the other. Preferably, the two connector members are provided with a one-way locking arrangement preventing separation of the connector members after coupling.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1984Date of Patent: August 26, 1986Assignee: Automotive Products plcInventors: David J. Patent number: 4122758Abstract: In a lift arm structure for a bucket, for instance on a loader-type vehicle, a service support is provided to block the lift arm in the extended position during servicing and repairing either of the lift arm structure or of parts in close proximity to the lift arm structure. The service support is U-shaped in configuration so as to straddle the rod of the lift cylinder when said lift cylinder is substantially completely extended. Pads are provided on the end of the service support to contact the mounting bracket for better distribution of the loads on the service support. Attachment members are mounted on the service support and engage a plate assembly bridging the open space between the sides of the service support so that with the service support in position on an extended cylinder rod, the attachment members and plate assembly lock the service support on the cylinder rod.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1977Date of Patent: October 31, 1978Assignee: Caterpillar Tractor Co.Inventors: Harold F. Patent number: 4108195Abstract: A quick-closing fire gate is provided having specific application to sectionalized production facilities using vibratory conveyors to transport volatile substances. The conveyor passes through a portal defined by a gate housing at each barrier wall. The gate door or blade initially positioned above the housing is knife-edged to sever the conveyor during its downward translation and is forced flush against the gate housing by the interaction of opposed inclined surfaces on the blade and its support structure. The inclined surfaces furthermore function to eliminate gate rebound by dissipating the kinetic energy of the falling blade and redirecting reaction forces away from the line of blade travel. The rapidity of gate operation is accomplished by a photosensitive cell detonating an explosive bolt which releases a pressurized piston connected to the gate blade.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1977Date of Patent: August 22, 1978Inventor: Henry K.
