  • Patent number: 5300089
Abstract: A pacifier is arranged to include a base disc mounting a base plug, wherein the base plug is directed through the base disc mounting a nipple head. The nipple head defines an annular groove between the nipple head and the base plug at a front wall of the base disc to enhance grasping of the nipple by an infant, wherein the nipple head includes a first inwardly tapered base portion extending from the annular base directed to a second outwardly tapered base portion, in turn directed to a third inwardly tapered base portion that in turn is directed into a nipple head tip, wherein the nipple head is canted from the annular base towards the nipple head tip defining an undulating outer surface for enhanced grasping by an infant in use. The nipple head is arranged to include a cavity to contain a fluid or freezable gel to enhance soothing use by the infant. A modification of the invention is directed to the fluid accessed to the infant and replenished through an access plug directed through the base plug.

  • Patent number: 5292335
Abstract: An infant pacifier with a diaphragm melody generator in which only when the infant holds the pacifier in the mouth and sucks or mumbles, a diaphragm switch of the melody generator is operated in order to permit the generator to generate melody. The present pacifier comprises a nipple part for being held by the infant mouth, a handle part for permitting the pacifier to be handled and a melody generator. The melody generator comprises a diaphragm switch for turning on/off the melody generator in accordance with the holding force and an electronic circuit board for generating the melody in cooperation with the diaphragm switch when the infant holds the nipple part of the pacifier in the mouth. The diaphragm switch is applied with conductive ink at its center and easily expanded and contracted by the holding force.

  • Patent number: 5263975
Abstract: A pacifier tether for use in conjunction with a pacifier to enhance developmental reflexes in an infant. The tether has a generally elongate body. The body has an upper fabric layer having a central portion and first and second extensions extending from the central portion, and first and second fabric layers underlying the first and second extensions, respectively, and stitched thereto. A reinforcing disk, preferably formed of several fabric layers, overlies the central portion of the upper fabric layer and is stitched thereto. An aperture is formed in the reinforcing disk and the central portion of the upper fabric layer for receiving the nipple of a pacifier. The reinforcing disk maintains the nipple in an upright midline position and insures that the infant's nose remains spaced from the fabric. The pacifier tether further includes a reinforced pocket underlying the aperture. The pacifier base is retained in the pocket.

  • Patent number: 5133740
Abstract: An orthopedic pacifier, which is useful to inhibit or correct a receding lower jaw condition for improved placement of the upper and lower alveolar ridges of an infant's mouth, includes a shield to border the lips, a resiliently deformable bulbous body and a bridge connecting the base end of the body to the shield. The bridge extends between the upper and lower alveolar ridges from the base end to the shield and positions the body with its free end located posteriorly in the mouth. The body has a palatal conforming upper portion, and a lower portion defining an inclined section extending from the base end to the free end to engage the posterior side of the lower alveolar ridge to guide the lower jaw forward to foster its potential to grow into normal position relative to the upper jaw. A depression in the free end guides tongue placement to direct its forces toward the palate to improve control for swallowing.
