Abstract: Examples of the present disclosure describe systems and methods for using a host DNS local cache to enable DNS resolution during network connectivity issues. In examples, a DNS request from a virtual environment executing on a host device is received by a DNS forwarder implemented within the host device. The DNS forwarder determines that a DNS resolver external to the host device is unreachable to provide a DNS response for a domain name in the DNS request. In response to determining the DNS resolver is unreachable, the DNS forwarder identifies a DNS response corresponding to the domain name within a DNS local cache implemented within the host device. The DNS forwarder provides the DNS response to the virtual environment to satisfy the DNS request.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method to synchronize files from a hosted file system where the client endpoint devices have direct access to the files stored on a hosted file store. When the client desires to synchronize with the files stored on the hosted file store the process identifies a sync role that can process the request. The particular sync role does not need to maintain state with the client device or the file store. The state necessary for the processing of the synchronization process is maintained separate from the sync role such that any sync role in the system can pick up the requests and process the requests. Once the role has been selected the synchronization process proceeds as normal. As state is not maintained by the sync role multiple roles can process the request or two roles can handle different portions of the process.

  • Publication number: 20240168443
Abstract: A technique is described for customizing a control system (e.g., an operating system) of a computing system for different use types. The different use types are associated with different ways of using the computing system. The technique improves performance of computing functions prioritized at a particular time. For instance, the technique improves performance by reducing the number of interruptions experienced by the computing system when executing prioritized applications. Further, in some implementations, the technique dynamically adapts to changing uses over the course of a single computing session. The technique performs this task by dynamically reassessing the use type that most accurately characterizes the current use of the computing system. The technique operates using a discrete computer program, machine-trained functionality, or some combination thereof. Some implementations of the machine-trained functionality use reinforcement learning.

Abstract: To increase the speed with which a Second Layer Address Table (SLAT) is traversed, memory having the same access permissions is contiguously arranged such that one or more hierarchical levels of the SLAT need not be referenced, thereby resulting in more efficient SLAT traversal. “Slabs” of memory are established whose memory range is sufficiently large that reference to a hierarchically lower level table can be skipped and a hierarchically higher level table's entries can directly identify relevant memory addresses. Such slabs are aligned to avoid smaller intermediate memory ranges. The loading of code or data into memory is performed based on a next available memory location within a slab having equivalent access permissions, or, if such a slab is not available, or if an existing slab does not have a sufficient quantity of available memory remaining, a new slab with the proper access permissions is established.

Abstract: Techniques and tools for encoding enhancement layer video with quantization that varies spatially and/or between color channels are presented, along with corresponding decoding techniques and tools. For example, an encoding tool determines whether quantization varies spatially over a picture, and the tool also determines whether quantization varies between color channels in the picture. The tool signals quantization parameters for macroblocks in the picture in an encoded bit stream. In some implementations, to signal the quantization parameters, the tool predicts the quantization parameters, and the quantization parameters are signaled with reference to the predicted quantization parameters. A decoding tool receives the encoded bit stream, predicts the quantization parameters, and uses the signaled information to determine the quantization parameters for the macroblocks of the enhancement layer video. The decoding tool performs inverse quantization that can vary spatially and/or between color channels.

Abstract: A user can select a capacity setting for a transitional partition that determines the allocation between a low-density partition and a high-density partition in the transitional partition. The transitional partition can dynamically change among multiple settings having different capacities for the low-density partition. If the current setting of the transitional partition does not efficiently utilize the available storage space based on the user's preferences for storing different types of data in the low-density partition and the high-density partition, then the user can choose to change the transitional partition to a different setting that better suits the individual user's storage allocation preferences.

Abstract: This application relates to video encoding and decoding, and specifically to tools and techniques for using and providing supplemental enhancement information in bitstreams. Among other things, the detailed description presents innovations for bitstreams having supplemental enhancement information (SEI). In particular embodiments, the SEI message includes picture source data (e.g., data indicating whether the associated picture is a progressive scan picture or an interlaced scan picture and/or data indicating whether the associated picture is a duplicate picture). The SEI message can also express a confidence level of the encoder's relative confidence in the accuracy of this picture source data. A decoder can use the confidence level indication to determine whether the decoder should separately identify the picture as progressive or interlaced and/or a duplicate picture or honor the picture source scanning information in the SEI as it is.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are exemplary embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems for performing content-adaptive deblocking to improve the visual quality of video images compressed using block-based motion-predictive video coding. For instance, in certain embodiments of the disclosed technology, edge information is obtained using global orientation energy edge detection (“OEED”) techniques on an initially deblocked image. OEED detection can provide a robust partition of local directional features (“LDFs”). For a local directional feature detected in the partition, a directional deblocking filter having an orientation corresponding to the orientation of the LDF can be used. The selected filter can have a filter orientation and activation thresholds that better preserve image details while reducing blocking artifacts. In certain embodiments, for a consecutive non-LDF region, extra smoothing can be imposed to suppress the visually severe blocking artifacts.

In some implementations, an encoder or decoder may perform a scanning process on a block according to a scanning order. When the block has not been transformed, the encoder or decoder may selectively change the scanning order to a different order. For example, if the block is associated with a particular type of prediction, the scanning order may be changed to a different order. Abstract: Biosensing measurements (e.g., heart rate, pupil size, cognitive load, stress level, etc.) are communicated in the context of events that occurred concurrently with the biosensing measurements. The biosensing measurements and the contextual events can be presented in real-time or as historical summaries. Such presentations allow users to easily gain useful insights into which specific events triggered which specific physiological responses in users. Therefore, the present concepts more effectively communicate insights that can be used to change user behavior, modify workflow, design improved products or services, enhance user satisfaction and wellbeing, increase productivity and revenue, and eliminate negative impacts on user's emotions and mental state.
