  • Patent number: 11390067
Abstract: The present invention discloses a printing unit with an automated sleeve change process. A sleeve can be prepared for the next printing job while the current job is running, thereby reducing the changeover time. Also, the printing unit can handle printing sleeves of very different sizes without any special additional adjustments to be made. The printing unit translates the printing roller and the inking roller on a horizontal line to engage and dis-engage the printing roller. The invention is convenient for large printing sleeves because the sleeve can be slipped over a shaft that remains in the unit. The setup results in a very rigid system, which guarantees an excellent printing quality.

The device includes internal chucks that hold on to the end of a sleeve or sleeve adapter. The chucks are rotatably mounted within a flexographic processing machine to permit sleeve processing. In addition, the chucks may move to accommodate a large range of sleeve or adapter diameters and lengths. The method permits the loading and unloading of sleeves with a minimum amount of sleeve handling and without additional end pieces or adapters.

  • Patent number: 8899153
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for operating a printing press determine the vibration behavior of at least one impression cylinder of the printing press, with the avoidance or suppression of undesirable vibrations such as resonant vibrations by utilizing measures in the range of the critical frequencies which trigger the vibrations. During operation of a printing press of this type, undesirable vibrations occur which cause quality impairments in relation to the printed image. The invention reduces quality impairments of this type. The problem is solved by performing targeted loading of the drive of the impression cylinder of the printing press with an exciting signal of the power output to cause vibrations of the impression cylinder, and determining critical frequencies in the resonant frequency spectrum of the impression cylinder using the vibrations which are caused.

  • Patent number: 8899148
Abstract: The invention provides a method for printing a material onto a substrate with a relief printing form made from a photosensitive element. The method includes forming an in-situ mask having a line screen resolution equal to or greater than 250 lines per inch on the photosensitive element, exposing the element to actinic radiation through the in-situ mask in an environment having an inert gas and a concentration of oxygen between 190,000 and 100 ppm, and treating the exposed element to form a relief structure having a plurality of raised surfaces with a line screen resolution equal to or greater than 250 lines per inch. Printing is accomplished by applying an imaging material to the plurality of raised surfaces and contacting to transfer the imaging material to the substrate. The method is suitable for printing high resolution graphic images, as well as for forming a uniform layer of imaging material on the substrate.
