Side Guards Patents (Class 105/439)
  • Patent number: 6694890
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a Between Car Barrier for multi-car transportation vehicles which utilize a combination of a flexible member and a secured mount, each of which are attached at opposed ends of adjacent cars of a vehicle in substantial alignment with another where the longitudinal axis of each car is substantially aligned. A positioning member keeps the flexible member from extending beyond the edge of the car, even when the vehicle is turning or traversing a curve. This provides a barrier to deter passengers from inadvertently and/or accidentally walking between cars of the multi-car transportation vehicle, thereby reducing the risk of injury.

  • Patent number: 5560301
Abstract: A safety barrier for a subway or railway train including pairs of individual pivoting triangular gate members with a smooth wall panel at the base of the triangle. Each gate member is retractable within a recess in the end wall of the train car near a corner and are expandable to form a partial continuation of the side wall of the train car and to form with an adjacent barrier on the rear end wall a safety barrier to prevent persons from entering the gap between the cars from either side of the train.

  • Patent number: 4757768
Abstract: An extendable safety rail for locomotives wherein a set of parallel bars is secured horizontally by the ends to vertical posts adaptable for vertical movement inside suitably sized sleeves mounted on the locomotive sides so as to safeguard men working on a locomotive top when the safety rail is in an upward position. When no work is being done the safety rail is lowered onto rubber cushions by the posts sliding into the mating sleeves to insure sufficient underpass clearing when the locomotive is enroute in regular service. The safety rail includes a centrally spaced support rod hinged to a lower horizontal bar for temporarily holding the guard upwards until the ends thereof are secured by appropriate pins at each vertical post, such that one man can extend the guard.

  • Patent number: 4220097
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a railway tank car is provided with a tank car skid arrangement including a continuous tank cradle pad extending the full distance between the stub sills located at opposite ends of the car. The cradle pad is curved to follow the tank bottom contour. A reinforcing plate is rigidly attached to the cradle pad extending transversely and longitudinally outwardly on either side of at least one tank car bottom fitting (lading valve and/or sump) depending from the tank bottom. The reinforcing plate is preferably also curved to follow the contour of the cradle pad and the tank bottom. A tank car skid extending longitudinally and transversely of the bottom fitting is rigidly attached to the reinforcing plate. The skid includes opposite end portions which are welded to the tank and which extend downwardly and inwardly toward a center section which contains the bottom fitting.

  • Patent number: 4103625
Abstract: A supporting or stabilizing device, especially for a moving vehicle, in which at least one rod is provided mounted on a support frame, such as the underneath side of a counter top, with the rod being movable axially from an idle position wherein it is disposed substantially entirely within, or beneath, the support frame to an extended position wherein it extends outwardly frm the support frame. When the rod is extended outwardly from the support frame, it serves as a supporting or stabilizing member for an individual positioned in front of the support frame. The rod may be associated with a second like rod spaced from the first rod so that when both rods are extended, an individual can take a position between the rods and be supported or stabilized thereby. The rod, or rods, are slidable in support brackets and a retaining device is provided for retaining each rod in axially adjusted positions in the supporting brackets.

  • Patent number: 4071135
Abstract: A plurality of passenger cars are hung at equal intervals along an endless parallel chain and continuously travel in one direction between two horizontal platforms which are vertically spaced from each other and are maintained stationary with respect to the traveling of the cars. Guard plates are pivotably mounted to the outer wall surfaces of each car facing each the adjacent cars so that the plates can be rotated to fill the space between cars. Only when the cars horizontally travel along the platforms do the guard plates swivel to substantially hide spacings between the adjacent cars.
