Flame Patents (Class 123/144)
  • Patent number: 10519921
Abstract: The invention relates to an ignition device for triggering an ignition spark at a spark plug by way of an ignition generator. The latter includes a magnet wheel, which has two permanent magnets arranged at a spacing from each other in the peripheral direction and a magnetic yoke. The magnetic yoke carries a charging coil which charges an ignition capacitor, a primary coil and a secondary coil connected to the spark plug. During every passing of a permanent magnet, a voltage is induced in the coils, wherein, in order to trigger the ignition spark, the ignition capacitor is discharged via a switch element. In order to avoid an unwanted ignition at the bottom dead center of the piston, a device for reducing the voltage that occurs at the spark plug is provided.

  • Patent number: 8424291
Abstract: The present invention relates to a flame glow plug having a combustion chamber which has an outlet opening for the flame, a fuel supply, in particular a blockable fuel supply, for the provision of a fuel flow to the combustion chamber, an air supply for the provision of an air flow to the combustion chamber and an ignition device, in particular an electrically operated heating element, which is arranged in the combustion chamber or which extends into the combustion chamber and which is made to ignite the air/fuel mixture arising from the provided fuel flow and the provided air flow. The air supply is made controllable in quantity to selectively operate the flame glow plug as a torch or as a secondary fuel injection apparatus. The invention furthermore relates to a regeneration apparatus for a particulate filter of an exhaust gas system, to an exhaust gas system for a combustion engine as well as to a method for the operation of a regeneration apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20090025670
Abstract: A pre-chamber for use with a spark plug or glow plug, the chamber being secured at an upper end attachable unit associated with an internal combustion cylinder. The pre-chamber is designed to promote faster ionization resulting in more efficient spark to flame ignition (due to voltage buildup being delayed until a generated spark jumps the gap), or beat to flame ignition (due to the introduction temperature of the injected plasma) and, in each instance, results in faster propagation of flame within the compressed cylinder, thereby achieving more efficient and consistent (cycle to cycle) output in combination with lower exhaust temperatures. A plurality of outlet ports are defined, such as perimeter/radially extending fashion, in an outlet end of the pre chamber body and communicate the combusted fuels as a plurality of flame outlets with a remaining volume of atomized fuel within the combustion chamber during a power outlet stroke.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing a Two-Stage Ignition System are disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention, a pilot stage (16) is employed to ignite a plurality of propellants (12, 14) and to create a pilot flame (22). The plurality of propellants (12, 14) are ignited in the main combustion stage (24) using the pilot flame (22), and a flow of an elevated temperature combustion product (30) is produced.

  • Patent number: 6374799
Abstract: An igniter for internal combustion engines is described, wherein a fluid composition of liquid igniter fuel containing several air bubbles enrichened with fuel vapor, is created. This fluid composition is injected into the engine combustion chamber where the several bubbles are ignited. The consequent burning and expansion of the bubbles scatters burning fuel throughout the combustion chamber, thus creating many separate and distributed ignition points. Otherwise slow burning engine fuel air mixture can, in this way, be burned rapidly, completely, and efficiently.

  • Patent number: 4549114
Abstract: To increase the spark intensity delivered from a spark plug, an auxiliary spark gap (33) is serially connected with an auxiliary capacitor (37) and the main spark gap (42), the auxiliary capacitor being charged through a charging circuit including a resistor (45) connected in shunt to the auxiliary spark gap (33) and the auxiliary capacitor, and a further or second resistor (46) connected in shunt across the auxiliary capacitor and the ground or chassis electrode (15), and a shunt capacitor (51) is connected between the main spark plug terminal (27) and the ground or chassis or counter electrode (11, 15) so that, upon breakdown of the auxiliary spark gap, the main spark gap will have a voltage thereacross formed by the charge voltage of the main or shunt capacitor (51) and the additional voltage on the auxiliary capacitor (37) which had been charged through the resistors connected across the auxiliary capacitor and to the main spark plug terminal (27) and the ground terminal or electrode (15) respectively.
