Abstract: An engine start system which may be employed in automotive idle stop systems. To start an engine, the system brings a pinion gear into engagement with a ring gear coupled to the engine and turns on an electric motor to rotate the ring gear through the pinion gear to crank the engine. When it is requested to start the engine during deceleration of the engine before stop thereof, the system thrusts the pinion into engagement with the ring gear and then turns on the motor to rotate the pinion gear, in other words, delays the activation of the motor until after the pinion gear has engaged the ring gear. This minimizes mechanical impact or noise arising from the engagement of the pinion gear with the ring gear and improves the reliability in engagement with the ring gear during the deceleration of the engine and durability of the system.

  • Patent number: 9254922
Abstract: A hybrid clutch assembly inserted between an internal combustion engine and the propeller of an aircraft to provide a hybrid-powered aircraft. The hybrid clutch assembly allows a direct current (DC) electric motor to be attached to the hybrid clutch assembly using drive belts. The hybrid clutch assembly allows the internal combustion engine to transmit power to the aircraft's propeller and freely spin the DC motor. The DC motor can transmit power to the aircraft's propeller without turning the internal combustion engine. The hybrid clutch assembly independently allows either the internal combustion engine or the DC motor in parallel to power the aircraft's propeller. The hybrid clutch assembly includes a hybrid clutch, a drive belt housing, a hybrid clutch assembly shaft, and an adapter plate. The hybrid clutch connects to the drive belt housing a hybrid clutch assembly shaft. The adapter plate enables connection of the hybrid clutch to the internal combustion engine propeller flange.

Abstract: In a hybrid type vehicle power unit including a first oil pump interlockingly connected to a crankshaft so as to supply at least a lubricating oil to an engine and a transmission, and a second oil pump for supplying the lubricating oil to the transmission, it is not necessary for an electric motor to be exclusively used for the second oil pump. Thus, a reduction in the number of component parts and a reduction in the cost of manufacturing are achieved. The second oil pump is interlockingly connected to an electric motor capable of transmitting a driving torque to an output shaft through the transmission.

  • Patent number: 8899204
Abstract: The total length of starter harness 7 for exclusive use for connecting a starter for an engine and plus-side terminal 4a of in-vehicle battery 4 is increased by providing a surplus redundant segment 21 to increase resistance in harness 7 beyond length required for laying the harness in an engine room. Redundant segment 21 is collected in a form of rod by forming a two-fold portion by folding a portion of the single continuous harness 7, and further folding the two-fold portion twice, and fixed through harness holder 23 to bracket 22 of battery tray 25. Without using a resistor receiving limitation of the heat resistance, it is possible to suppress a voltage drop at the time of restart, problematical in a vehicle having an idle-stop function. A required resistance is obtained by increasing the length redundantly, so that a temperature increase of harness 7 is small.
