Metal Revolving Or Tumbling Type Shaping Means Patents (Class 164/272)
  • Patent number: 11980932
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing elongate metal strands or fibres with a crucible, the method comprising the steps of; directing molten metal through a nozzle having a nozzle direction in a deposition direction at a regulated pressure difference between the inside and the outside of the crucible; depositing said molten metal from said nozzle on a rotating planar surface having an axis of rotation; entraining said molten metal in one plane via said rotating planar surface to form elongate metal strands, wherein said rotating surface is aligned at an alignment angle, to the deposition direction during the entraining of the molten metal; cooling said elongate metal strands to form solidified metal strands; and guiding said metal strands to collecting means to collect the solidified metal strands formed on the rotating planar surface.

Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed for the centrifugal casting of spheres, particularly hollow spheres containing low air pressure, as well as solid and hollow spheres having a gradient internal density. Molten or self-hardening casting material is introduced into a hollow spherical mold and the mold made to rotate about two axes intersecting at the center of the mold. The resulting centrifugal forces cause the casting material to be evenly distributed about the inner surface of the mold. If a mixture of casting materials of different densities is used, the densest material will settle closer to the walls of the mold, while less dense materials will move closer to the center. The casting material is hardened and the resulting sphere is removed from the mold. One or more valves may be employed to transport fluent materials into and out of the mold. If gas is removed from a partially-filled mold prior to casting, the product will be a hollow sphere having an interior pressure less than ambient.

  • Patent number: 7797832
Abstract: A process is provided for manufacturing aluminum vehicle wheels by a casting process that is followed by processing including flow forming and heat treatment steps while one or more risers remain on the cast wheel blank. The process can include directing cooling fluid onto an exposed surface of the casting mold to enhance wheel strength. One-by-one transfer of wheel blanks can be practiced to avoid negative aspects of batch processing.

Abstract: Disclosed is a casting roll for a twin roll strip caster, and particularly, a casting roll for a twin roll strip caster, in which a continuous gas channel, for preventing the generation of dents in the surface of a strip when casting TWIP steel in order to improve the mechanical properties of the strip, including increasing the tensile strength and elongation, is formed in the surface of the casting roll, thus discharging gas mixed when the strip is cast, thereby preventing the generation of dents in the surface of the strip when casting the TWIP steel, in particular, a continuous gas channel is formed, thereby decreasing a conventional dent index and discouraging the generation of dents.

  • Patent number: 4610725
Abstract: A continuous extrusion machine, in which feedstock is admitted (at 50) to a peripheral groove (12) in a rotating wheel (10), is enclosed in that groove by a cooperating shoe (24), and is frictionally dragged along an arcuate passageway (48) formed by said groove and a projecting portion (30) of said shoe towards an abutment (36) carried by the shoe. The abutment tip and adjacent wheel parts disposed downstream of the abutment are cooled directly by a jet of cooling fluid issuing from a nozzle (64) carried downstream on the shoe. An annular band (FIG. 2, 74) of a good thermally-conductive metal embedded concentrically in the wheel enhances the cooling obtained. The extrusion apparatus yields a metal product (FIG.

  • Patent number: 4003232
Abstract: The method and apparatus for continually forming spherical objects such as steel balls or the like which balls are utilized in various grinding processes which apparatus and method includes at least one longitudinally extending forming tube with means for rotating the same wherein a predetermined amount of material is introduced at one end thereof and the rotation of the tube along with the downward movement of the material will form the introduced material into a substantially spherical shape and thereafter providing forming dies for compressing the formed object into a more positive spherical shape of a hardened compressed quality. The apparatus may include a plurality of such forming tubes with each such tube feeding the formed object into a set of forming dies wherein one set of the dies is rotated with the forming tubes past a stationary set of dies which forming dies are provided with forming grooves therein to compress and drive the balls to an exit portion of the apparatus.
