Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for the passive reduction of the sound vibrations in a liquid resulting from a sound source arranged below the liquid level of a body of water, the device comprising an elongate tube which can be arranged over the sound source, the tube comprising an outer wall and inner wall, wherein the tube is designed to maintain a certain desired pressure in the intermediate space between the inner and outer wall. In this case, the pressure is reduced with respect to the ambient pressure. As a result of the reduced pressure, the sound vibrations will less readily travel to the outside and the noise level in the area around the tube is reduced.

  • Patent number: 8132642
Abstract: Normally a speaker is used by attaching to a sealed or semi-sealed cabinet so that vibration generated at the front and the back of a diaphragm does not mutually interfere. Therefore, a certain depth and a volume are necessary, and in a limited location such as a front panel of a device, there is a case that it cannot be attached to the most suitable position for a listener. As a means to solve that, a method that a speaker sound at a distant position is led to a front panel by a waveguide is practically used. However, still it has limitations in depth and attaching position, and good results cannot be obtained also in efficiency. A speaker is attached so that a sound generated at the front of the speaker attached to a cabinet is led to a plane such as a front panel of a device by a waveguide, and the opening surface of the waveguide is almost perpendicular to the plane.

  • Patent number: 7533760
Abstract: The invention uses tubes for the reduction of radiated duct noise. The tubes may be used to attenuate narrow band noise by diverting a portion of the acoustic energy through the tubes back into the duct. Upon reintroducing the diverted flow out of phase with the primary flow, acoustic cancellation is achieved. The frequency at which this occurs is dependent on the difference in the path lengths through the tubes and the separation distance—the distance separating the inlet and outlet of the tube. This invention can be used over varying frequency ranges by using an arrangement of flexible, constant length tubes. The effective frequency range is tailored by varying the separation distance and also allows the varying the angular arrangement of the tubes for more effective attenuation of spinning modes having varying propagation angle.

  • Patent number: 6549637
Abstract: Differential flow vents allow airflow within a vent to be preferential. A flange disposed within a vent introduces non-linearities and causes a preferred direction of airflow into an expanding volume. The differential flow vents are used in conjunction with the natural motion of the loudspeaker cone acting as a pump to cool the loudspeaker cabinet enclosure without having to directly cool the woofer magnet structure. In one embodiment, at least one pair of opposed differential flow vents within the cabinet enclosure provide fresh air to be preferentially circulated to cool the interior of a loudspeaker system. In another embodiment, by providing an odd number of opposed differential flow vents within the cabinet enclosure, positive air circulation also results. By making either the pairs or odd number of differential flow vents to be asymmetrical, dynamic woofer offset is compensated.

  • Patent number: 6450289
Abstract: A noise attenuation device having an array of quarter wave resonators which have varying mouth widths disposed adjacent an aperture or ventilation opening having a predefined width. The resonators are tuned to a resonant frequency, increasing from one face of the attenuation device to another, and so that the mouth widths are each greater than the width of the aperture or ventilation opening, respectively. Optionally, a second array tuned to a different frequency may be disposed on the opposite side of the aperture and the aperture may be kinked so that there is no direct line of sight through the device.
