A seat assembly is operatively coupled to the rear wall of the frame assembly and provides a seat on which a user can sit. A first drive assembly is coupled to the seat assembly and includes a first motor that is connected to a driven wheel that seats against the vertical drive track to controllably move the seat assembly in a vertical direction along the frame assembly. A second drive assembly is coupled to a swivel plate for controllably moving the swivel plate resulting in swiveling of the seat assembly relative to the frame assembly. A controller and a power source are also provided.

Adjustable sill supports extending from adjustable horizontal cross members allow precise alignment with building floor doorways. Vertical elevator guide rails coupled to cross members cooperate with guide shoes on elevator cars to deter horizontal oscillations and smooth vertical motion of the car. A hoist beam atop the uppermost cage may support of an elevator car during maintenance. Cages may be assembled separately and installed in modular segments as the height of the building progresses, and may be erected before construction of building floors, allowing floors to be built to match hoistway sills.

The brackets, rails, a machine for driving a cab and a dead end hitch are then mounted within the hoistway. The connection of the brackets and rails provides support to dissipate the loads which are transferred into the rail in such systems wherein the machine or the dead end hitch is fixed to a rail. Once the rails have been adequately supported by additional brackets, the brackets which are secured to the rails are removed from the rail. The brackets provide support, but are no longer fixed to the rails.

On the forward section there is mounted a pair of A-frames having a cross beam mounted at their tops which in turn has a winch mounted thereon. A movable transfer deck is located between the I's of the two I-beams and can be moved to a position interior of the building once a load is placed thereon. The winch can also be located on the higher floor and idler sheaves can be used on top of the cross beam.

The safety apparatus comprises a collapsible safety wall composed of laminae (1) and supported by telescopic bars (2). The bars (2) are inserted through holes provided in the laminae and attached by their ends to separate supporting structures (3) either with or without hinges (4).
