  • Patent number: 5402909
Abstract: A drum for liquids with a generally cylindrical sidewall and a drainage system in each end wall. One end wall has a peripheral channel opening into a sump from which substantially all the of liquid in the drum can be removed through a dip tube received in the sump and connected to a siphon or a pump. The other end wall has another sump located adjacent the sidewall with a tapered portion extending between them so that when the barrel is turned upside down substantially all of its contents can be drained by gravity through a bunghole in the sump. • Patent number: 4776479
Abstract: In a spigoted barrel of a synthetic resin, welded together from two or more parts, with a sidewall section, a head section, and a lid section, exhibiting bungholes (e.g. 9) hidden in depressions, a barrier (13) is integrally molded to the inner surface (12) of each depression (e.g. 11) of the lid section (4), this barrier extending in an arcuate shape from the sidewall section (14) around the respective bunghole (9) and constituting a collecting pan for a residual content (16) of the barrel. Thereby, upon tilting of the barrel, complete emptying becomes possible. The barrier (13) is lower in the zone around the bunghole (9) than in the regions toward the sidewall section (14) so that the barrier (13) does not form a hindrance during cleaning of the barrel.

  • Patent number: 4412628
Abstract: A drum apparatus includes an injection-molded or extruded rim member formed into a ring shape and permanently attached to a blow-molded thermoplastic drum body around the top portion of the drum adjacent to the sidewall section of the drum body. The rim member includes an inwardly, radially projecting annular protuberance which is juxtaposed adjacent an annular groove in the drum just below the top of the drum. The rim member is attached to the drum while the rim member is at an elevated temperature by positioning the rim around the drum. As the temperature of the rim member decreases, the diameter of the rim member decreases causing the annular protuberance to seat into the drum's annular groove. The rim member also has a grasping beak which provides an outwardly extending support lip, a top edge providing a stacking ridge which is positioned vertically over the sidewall of the drum, and an annular seizing surface facing radially inwardly. A short chain hoist groove is formed in the bottom of the drum.

Abstract: A plastic encased metal barrel has annular stack edges of plastic, which axially project beyond the barrel bottom and top. The top and bottom stack edges form annular noses which project axially. The diameters of the annular noses are so related to one another that the annular nose on one stack edge can grip over the annular nose on the other stack edge. The top and bottom barrel ends are preferably arcuate and one end carries a bung socket. The outer coating or shell of plastic is preferably foam. The bung socket is surrounded by a reinforcing sheet metal plate enveloped by the plastic. The plastic coat forms a substantially plane surface which surrounds the bung socket and serves as an inscription field, wherein the inscription is formed at least in part by indentations in the plastic mass.
