    Abstract: A binding tool for assisting in the task of folding and pressing bindings and ruffles and to a method of use thereof. The binding tool has a tool body having a top side and a bottom side and a slot disposed through the body for receiving a strip of cloth to be folded. The binding tool is used by placing the body member onto the top of an ironing board whereby the slot extends from the top of the ironing board upwardly through the body member. One end of a strip cloth is folded and then threaded through the slot from the top of the body down so that it extends between the body and the top of the ironing board. A heated iron is placed on a portion of the folded strip of cloth and then the strip of cloth is pulled through the slot whereby it is folded and simultaneously pulled under the iron and between the iron and the ironing board whereby it is pressed.

    Abstract: A pleat forming apparatus is formed with a "U" shaped framework including a plurality of rotatably mounted threaded rods therethrough. The threaded rods are mounted rotatably through forwardly extending legs of the "U" shaped frame wherein the threaded rods are mounted from opposite directions through the legs of the framework and through pleat arm supports mounting the pleat arms of the instant invention. The pleat arms include telescoping arms thereover for dimensionally lengthening the effective span of the pleat arms. The threaded rods are rotatably mounted to vary the spacing of the pleat arms to accommodate various material to be pleated and effect a desired pleat spacing.

    Abstract: A pin tucking device for forming a plurality of pleats-like folds on a fabric has a flat base plate for fixing guide plates in position in cooperation with guide-plate mounting plates. One of the guide-plate mounting plates which is mounted on the base end-side of the base plate has kerfs spaced wider from one another than those of the other guide-plate mounting plate which is mounted on the front end side, so that it is possible to effectively cope with any change in needle intervals in the pin tuck sewing machine by hook portions of the guide plates being brought into engagement with the kerfs. Further, by engaging and disengaging the guide plates relative to the guide-plate mounting plates through such engagment and disengagement of the hook portions it is possible to vary the number of guide plates and thus to change the intervals of pleats-like folds in various different ways.

Frame shaped based plates permit easy removal of fabric jamming or the like trouble without the necessity of the base plates being put out of assembly. The guide-plate mounting plates are mounted to the base plates by fixing plates. The device is easy to manufacture and economical.

    Abstract: In a pleat forming machine, apertures are defined in a pleat simultaneously with the formation of the pleat. A pusher bar carries a cutting member which projects into a recess defined in a pleating bar when the two bars are brought together to form the pleat. By so projecting, the cutting member pierces the folded material between the bars to form the required apertures. Clean and accurate cutting is assured by providing a continuous cutting edge, at the distal end of the cutting member, biased at an angle relative to the mating surfaces of the bars in order to concentrate the cutting force at a small portion of the edge at the time of puncture.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods of heat-treating laminar materials, in particular fabrics including materials such as synthetic leather (laminated polyurethane) are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a pair of cooperating rollers defining a nip through which the material is passed. Heating means is arranged to heat the material as it is compressed at the roller nip. A feeding arrangement is provided for feeding the material to said nip, the feeding arrangement including a pair of cooperating formers between which the material is passed. Each of the formers comprises a series of ribs spaced apart from one another, the average gap between adjacent ribs being less at the leading edge of the former than at the trailing edge thereof. The ribs of one former are positioned so that they are able to lie within the gaps between the ribs of the other former. Advantageously, the apparatus also includes means for effecting lateral movement of at least one of the formers.

    Abstract: A generally upright fabric sheet supporting frame has a transversely extending pleater support mounted thereto. Plural elongated pleaters are slidably mounted to the pleater support and are aligned in a transversely extending generally horizontal row. These pleaters are selected for the desired size of pleat, are adjusted to a desired position along the row, and are then releasably clamped in place. The fabric sheet is folded about projecting portions of these pleaters and secured together, as by flat washers and a hollow rivet, at spaced apart locations. Curtain raising and lowering cords are threaded through apertures of the washers and the rivet. The pleat is removed from the pleaters, and the fabric and pleater support are moved relative to one another to position a section of unpleated fabric adjacent the pleaters. This unpleated fabric is then pleated in the same manner. This cycle is repeated until the shade is complete.

    Abstract: Apparatus for use in fabricating pleated materials, particularly for forming pleats in drapery materials such as swags and cascades. The apparatus greatly facilitates and eliminates some certain hand operations. A plurality of parallel upstanding spaced members is provided. The members are connected by adjustable lazy tongs means so that the members are adjustable to a desired uniform spacing. The members may be either straight or they may be of curved configuration for making swags. The material is placed over the members and then uniform pleats are formed over the members with the pleats then being held to the members by holding devices. The members are constructed so that they can be manipulated or actuated to hold all the pleats which are then secured by stapling prior to the removal of the completed material and final fabrication.
