    Abstract: The invention refers to a downdraft carburetor for internal combustion engines, the choke tube cross-section being controlled by a choke tube valve whose movement is controlled as a function of the control pressure in the choke tube by means of a diaphragm and lever with spring support. The choke tube and the choke tube valve have the shape of a venturi nozzle. The control of the choke tube valve is so arranged that the closing moment increases with closing of the choke tube valve. A damping system is provided which consists of a diaphragm box placed in the float chamber of the carburetor and which is connected by means of levers with the levers controlling the choke tube valve.

    Abstract: A resiliently deformable link is interposed between the throttle linkage and the throttle lever of a carburetor normally associated with a conventional internal combustion engine. The resiliently deformable member receives and stores energy during acceleration movements of the linkage and transmits the energy to the throttle lever for opening the throttle valve. A pneumatic restrictor such as a dashpot or bellows opposes the opening of the throttle valve in response to the resiliently deformable member. The rate of discharge of air into or from a chamber within the pneumatic restrictor modulates the rate of opening the throttle valve. Air flow is regulated by air bleed means which may be an adjustable atmospheric vented valve or other means responsive to engine manifold vacuum.Biasing means serve to urge the throttle lever toward a closed throttle position.

    Abstract: Deceleration control apparatus for a vehicle engine minimizes increase in exhaust pollutants during sudden deceleration while at the same time maintaining effective braking action of the engine to reduce the speed of the vehicle. In addition to a dash pot mechanism subjected to vacuum pressures both upstream and downstream from the engine throttle valve for regulating closing movement of the throttle valve, an air passage communicates with the engine intake passage downstream from the throttle valve. A control valve is operatively interposed in the air passage to admit atmospheric air into the engine intake passage upon sudden deceleration in engine speed. The control valve closes slowly during continued deceleration and closes off the air supply when deceleration ceases.

    Abstract: A carburetor for an internal combustion engine comprises a fuel idling circuit opening into the intake pipe downstream of a driver-actuated main throttle. Idle regulation means comprise a first pneumatic element connected to that part of the intake pipe downstream of the main throttle and a second pneumatic element having a movable part connected to the main throttle means by a unidirectional connection such that the throttle means can be opened to an additional extent. The second pneumatic element is subjected to the vacuum in a chamber connected to said part of the intake pipe and also connected to atmosphere by a valve carried by the movable part of the second element and opened by the first pneumatic element moving with respect to the second pneumatic element when there is an increase in the degree of vacuum in the intake pipe. Additional means preventing the main throttle from closing beyond a partially open position and which are disabled after successful cranking may be provided.

    Abstract: An integral device for controlling the rate of throttle closure and for preventing after run of an internal combustion engine is provided which utilizes a pair of diaphragm assemblies for accomplishing both functional operations. The device includes a dash pot stem having an axial opening through it. The opening is operatively connected to a source of engine vacuum. A diaphragm housing defining a chamber has a pair of diaphragm assemblies positioned in it. A first diaphragm assembly is mounted to the dash pot stem. The second diaphragm assembly is movably mounted on the dash pot stem and includes a shaft extending through the housing. The shaft is engagable with suitable linkage means operatively connected to a throttle valve of a carburetor for the engine. Upon engine start, the application of engine vacuum to a first side of the first diaphragm operates on the diaphragm and housing so that, in effect, the housing moves in a first direction, positioning the shaft at its curb idle position.
