Sonic Vibrators Patents (Class 261/DIG48)
  • Patent number: 6135427
Abstract: A compact, small size humidifier which may be used as a portable humidifier. The humidifier may include the appropriate electrical plugs and internal electrical transformer to allow use in different countries with different voltages and electrical power systems, e.g., 110V use in the United States, 220V use in Europe, etc. The humidifier also includes an opening for receiving a number of different sockets allowing use of different sized water bottles as the water tank. The different sockets may be detachably affixed to the humidifier body in appropriate recesses or holding arrangements so that the different sockets are easily made available to the user. The humidifier may also include a low water detection assembly which utilizes, e.g., two projecting probes positioned in the water retaining chamber, to indicate the presence of a sufficient amount of water.

  • Patent number: 6102992
Abstract: An improved method and device for decontamination of a contaminated process area is provided whereby a fine aerosol of an encapsulant for use in encapsulating the contaminants within the contaminated environment is generated. The aerosol is generated by a plurality of ultrasonic transducers located below the surface of a reservoir containing a capture liquid. The output of the transducers is focused to a point near the surface of the liquid to cause a surface disturbance which results in the formation of an aerosol of encapsulant from the capture liquid. A pressurization fan is used to force ambient air through the pressurization chamber to transport the aerosol to the process area to be treated. The aerosol forms a thin coating of encapsulant over the hazardous material thereby allowing the hazardous material to be safely removed from the process area or permanently adhered to the walls of the process area.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for producing gas bubbles of a uniform ize in a liquid. First, the liquid medium flows over a wall or other liquid containment surface. Gas is then emitted into the liquid medium to form gas bubbles from an aperture in the wall at a bubble formation position. A standing wave is then established in the liquid medium at the aperture. It is found that the bubbles formed at the aperture are of a substantially uniform size.

  • Patent number: 5918804
Abstract: In a combination type humidifier having a heater and an ultrasonic vibrator, an art for preventing the ultrasonic vibrator from being thermally damaged due to a heat produced by the heater is disclosed. First, a current humidity of a space, a water temperature of a humidifying chamber and a target humidity set by a user are detected. When the current humidity is higher than the target humidity, a fan motor begins to operate for a rapid heat loss. Otherwise, when the target humidity is higher than the current humidity, an error message concerning the setting of the target humidity is displayed and the fan motor is driven for a predetermined time. The heater is controlled so that the water temperature of the humidifying chamber is kept below the limit temperature by using a result of comparing the water temperature of the humidifying chamber with a limit temperature that is set for protecting the ultrasonic vibrator while the ultrasonic vibrator and the heater are simultaneously operated by a user's selection.

  • Patent number: 5916490
Abstract: A humidifier is provided of the type which has a water tank or reservoir for holding tap water. Common tap water frequently is "hard" due to dissolved minerals which result in the humidifier emitting a fine dust when such water is used. By affixing electroplated electrodes to the interior of the tank minerals such as calcium carbonate can precipitate on the surface of the cathodes. Temporarily reversing the polarity of the electrodes will cause the calcium carbonate to be dislodged from the electrodes and fall to the bottom of the reservoir where it can be removed.

The manifold vibrates by piezoelectric actuators and springs in combination. The droplet injector array allows the process stream to flow through the injector assembly with the droplets uniformly dispersed into this stream. The moving parts such as the injector assembly, springs, and actuators are structurally resonant at a frequency near the droplet formation frequency. The colinear, spring/actuator configuration minimizes internal stresses due to manufacturing tolerances, preloading requirements, temperature changes, and cyclic operation in a large area generator. The linear spring/actuator configuration has low stiffness in the vibration direction and high stiffness in transverse direction to eliminate motions which would cause nonuniformly sized droplets.

Abstract: An aircraft air conditioning system circulates hot air to a humidifier having an atomized or vaporized water generator (2, 35). The exit of the water generator is located at the apex of a conical surface (20, 27, 42) which diverges in the direction of air circulation. The conical surface is pierced by holes (21) through which the hot air passes while encountering and mixing with the water particles or the water vapor mixes them there and carries them along. The conical surface is a surface of revolution (27) opening downstream. The apex of the conical surface is practically in the form of a spherical cap. The center of the apex is pierced by an outlet passage of the generator (2, 35).

  • Patent number: 5032027
Abstract: An ultrasonic fluid processing method is provided for cavitation and processing a first fluid with a second fluid in a sonication or cavitation zone. The method is useful for preparation of emulsions for chemical and pharmaceutical applications, to gasify liquids for purification, for chemical reactions, to accelerate chemical and physical reactions, and to suspend fine particles. The method includes the steps of, forming a vibration element having an axis and with an adjacent sonication or cavitation zone, enclosing the element and zone in a sealed cavity having a first fluid passage, forming a second fluid passage coaxially with the vibration element and disposed adjacent to the sonication zone, and forming a third fluid passage coaxially with the vibration element and disposed adjacent to the sonication zone. With this method, problems with the control of proportions and amounts and uniformity of parts of fluids being mixed or processed are avoided.

  • Patent number: 5030253
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fragrant air supplying method, supplying apparatus, and a building having a fragrant air supplying system for supplying fragrant air to the rooms. A fragrant-material supplying means supplies fragrant material to a mist-generating means to generate mist either by blowing air or by vibration produced by an ultrasonic-oscillating means. The mist is blown to a surface portion formed at the end of a fragrant-air separating means which separates evaporated fragrant air from mist. The fragrant air is then introduced into holes formed in a fragrant-air discharging means, in which the place of holes are offset from the surface portion toward the downstream of the fragrant air. The fragrant air is then blown into a distributing passage from the fragrant-air discharging means to mix the fragrant air with conditioned-air supplied by an air-supplying means.

Abstract: A fog producing apparatus for suspending fine particles of water in air in an economical and reliable manner. Ultrasonic transducers potted in an electrically insulative and liquidproof material are placed in a container in which a predetermined water level is maintained by a float and valve device. Alternatively, the potted transducers are suspended below floats floating on the surface of the water whereby the critical water depth over the transducers is automatically maintained. In addition compressed air is conducted through the emanating fog plumes to provide a more homogeneous and dispersed fog effect. A copious amount of fog can thereby be efficiently and reliably produced to create theatrical or visual effects.
