Bolster Patents (Class 267/6)
  • Publication number: 20080210119
Abstract: A device for the secondary suspension of a body of a rail vehicle, the device comprising a spring element which is between the body and a bogie and to ensure at least one raised transport level for the body during the journey of the rail vehicle. The spring element can be compressed by a traction cylinder when the rail vehicle is stationary, in order to adjust a sunken platform level for the body, which is arranged below the raised driving level. The traction cylinder is provided with means for mechanically decoupling the advancing movement of the body from a pressure reduction in the pressure chamber of the traction cylinder.

  • Publication number: 20080122147
Abstract: An automotive impact absorbing member integrally formed of synthetic resin material having lengthwise shape that extends with a constant hollow cross section. The impact absorbing member includes: plate-shaped rib portions each extending in a direction perpendicular to an impact load input direction; and load transmitting portions connecting with rib portions at either widthwise end thereof for transmitting a widthwise direction component force of the impact load to the rib portions. At least one of the plate-shaped rib portions has a thin portion of minimum thickness dimension situated in a widthwise center section thereof, and has a pair of gradual change portions situated to either side of the thin portion in a width direction and which increase gradually in thickness dimension outwardly in the width direction.

  • Patent number: 6659438
Abstract: A mount with a first attachment member; a second attachment member spaced from the first attachment member; and resilient members joining the first and second attachment members, each of the resilient members having at least one void, the voids being collapsible under loading between a first open void condition where the mount has a first substantially constant stiffness, and a second collapsed condition where the voids are substantially closed, the mount having a second substantially constant stiffness when the voids are in the second collapsed condition.

  • Patent number: 6220580
Abstract: A leaf spring suspension assembly includes a leaf spring assembly having a plurality of vertically stacked leaf springs and a bearing assembly positioned adjacent an end thereof. The bearing assembly includes an upper insulator cup having an upper recess and a lower bracket cap having a lower recess and upper and lower bonded bearings. The upper bonded bearing is received in the upper recess and includes a rigid lower member having an upper elastomer element bonded thereto; the bearing being received adjacent the upper side of the leaf spring assembly. The lower bonded bearing is received in the lower recess and includes a rigid upper member having a lower elastomer element bonded thereto; the lower bearing being received adjacent the lower side of the leaf spring assembly. At least one of the upper and lower elastomer elements includes a spherical elastomer element.

  • Patent number: 5676356
Abstract: A flexible bolster for installation between two load-carrying members in a vehicle suspension. The bolster comprises a block of rubber or rubber-like elastomer sandwiched between two end plates. The block of rubber preferably has molded thereon a plurality of metal washers or plates oriented parallel to each other and the end plates. A bore extends axially through the end plates and block of rubber. A rebound control restraint is disposed in the bore. The restraint comprise a length of cable having retainers swaged to its opposite ends. Each retainer has an enlarged part or assembly which bears against the outer side of one of the end plates. The restraint acts to limit the extent to which the end plates separate when the bolster is under tension and thereby controls rebound. The restraint is free so as not to absorb compression or shear forces applied to the bolster.

  • Patent number: 4355583
Abstract: A side bearing comprises integrally bonded pieces including an elastomeric cushion member secured to top and bottom plates and flexible leveling means secured to the bottom plate. The bearing is designed for connection between the bolster and truck side frames of a railway car. The elastomeric member includes progressively larger openings therein extending from its center to its ends to provide varying flexibility to permit articulation of the truck side frames relative to the bolster during operation.
