Abstract: Provision of appropriate fixtures for locating components for fabrication, machining and installation purposes is important. Traditionally, solid fixtures have been utilized but these have limitations with regard to consistency of orientation particularly if the fixture is removed from a base support or workbench regularly. By providing sheet elements for sides 2, 3 and spacers 4, 5 a robust structure can be achieved when these sheet elements are secured at corners to a base support 8 and to each other at top portions. In such circumstances the fixture 1 can present location plates 41, 42 upon a locator 43. The locator 43 comprises cross secured plates which extend through at least one cross hole to limit movement of the locator upon which the location plates 41, 42 are presented to axial displacement. Rigidity of the fixture is further reinforced by integrating its structure with its base-plate support.

The bearing portion including a first bearing member and a second bearing member. At least one guide bar extends between the first and second bearing members. To permit movement, the first bearing member is movably arranged on the guide bar. The second bearing member is fixed relative to first bearing member by the support leg arrangement. The work table also includes a locking mechanism for securing the first bearing member relative to the second bearing member to define a use position. The locking mechanism, including a sleeve, a locking member, and a fixing member, is affixed to the guide bar between the first and second bearing members.

Abstract: A portable workbench includes top members, a support structure, a frame, wheels and a toe plate. The top members lie in a common plane and define a working surface with opposing side portions that define clamping surfaces. The support structure supports the top members and permits selectively traversing at least one of the pair of top members toward another to permit a workpiece to be clamped therebetween. The frame includes collapsible legs. The wheels and toe plate are coupled to the frame adjacent to each other. The workbench is positionable in a raised position, a collapsed position and a hand truck position. The toe plate is movable from a retracted position to an extended position to permit the portable workbench to be employed as a hand truck.

Abstract: A workbench has at least one drive member to clamp table members against one another. The drive member has a receiving tube and a crank tube. The receiving tube and crank tube are coupled with respect to one another for telescoping movement. One of the tubes has a threaded member and the other tube has a thread engaging member. A mechanism engages and disengages the thread engaging member into the threaded member such that in an engaged position, the crank tube can be rotated in the receiving tube for screw type movement. In a disengaged position, the crank tube is freely slidable for sliding movement in the receiving tube.

  • Patent number: 6619643
Abstract: A mechanism is described for incorporating into a clamping workbench of the type comprising a pair of main clamping jaws (234, 237) and a supplementary clamping jaw (230) which is movable as a consequence of relative movement of the main jaws to engage and clamp a workpiece lying across the main jaws. The clamping movement of the supplementary jaw (230) is generally perpendicular to that of the main jaws. The invention concerns a supplementary jaw (230) having a single actuating arm (238), one end of which is adapted to be pivotally received in an opening (246) in one of the main jaws (237), and the other end of which is slidably connected to the supplementary jaw (230) and held captive therein by pin means (304, 306) extending above and below the captive end of the arm (238).
