Abstract: A novel technique for the fabrication of a casket dome lid from, for example, Smooth-One-Side (“S1S”) hardboard is disclosed. The invention is also directed to the fabrication of a casket lid which has a domed configuration both in the lateral and longitudinal directions of the lid. The method comprises the steps of providing a lid blank having a first end, second end, and a central region; providing a pair of diagonal voids oriented at corners of the first end of said blank and extending inward toward the central region; placing the lid blank in a vacuum fixture; and flexing the lid blank into a domed configuration via the vacuum fixture, such that the blank is domed in both a longitudinal and a transverse direction.

A bore in the bracket is configured to receive a casket bar when in the first orientation. Tabs on the bracket are configured to at least partially fit within a portion of the casket bar when the bracket is oriented in the second orientation. A bracket cover could also use other bracket type mechanisms to attach and hold the casket bars to the casket which will support the required weight of a casket at the grave site. Once a bracket and bars are attached, the casket will be able to be shipped without the decorative bracket cover installed. The decorative modular casket bracket cover will be able to be added to the casket at any time.

The shoulder portion is in contact with and conforms to the convex outer surface of the rim of the hole. A neck portion of the through-fitting extends axially from the shoulder portion and through the hole. The neck portion has a radially-outwardly extending integral flange portion that conforms to and is in contact with the concave inner surface of said hole substantially around an entire periphery of the hole. The body portion is integral and in one piece or is an assembly of inner and outer tubes. The integral flange is formed by directing a shape-conforming crimping tool against a concave, shape-conforming end face of the neck portion of the through-fitting.

The cover further has a frame with a first slot for receiving an edge of the cap and a second slot for receiving an edge of the dish.

A cover member with at least two attachment tabs disposed on opposite edges of the cover member engages the lip of the frame member so that the cover member is detachably affixed to and covers the opening in the frame member. In one aspect of the device, the trim piece is specifically constructed to affix to a corner of the casket. In another aspect of the device, the trim piece is specifically constructed to affix to the side of the casket. In yet another aspect of the device, the trim piece is a single, integrally formed corner piece where a living hinge pivotally connects the cover member to the frame member.

Each cap has a crown, a longer dimension and a shorter dimension, and is constructed of a plurality of boards extending parallel to the longer dimension and including a center spine board. The center spine board is fabricated from a single full-length board sawed in two; remaining ones of thee cap crown boards are non-full length boards. The gap between the head and foot end caps when closed in combination with the matching grain of the spine boards creates the appearance of the cap crowns being constructed of full length boards. Also, by utilizing at least one full length board in the cap, current tooling may be used.

A pair of mating applique snap members 58, 90 may be secured to each applique. Mating engagement of the snap members may be achieved by applying a force perpendicular to a plane of the side 12, 34, thereby reliably mating the snap members and securing the applique to the casket side.

Abstract: A metal casket shell will includes sides, ends, bottoms and lids blanked and formed from pre-painted or pre-finished material. Corner connectors fasten the sides thereby eliminating the need to weld and grind these joints.

Abstract: A casket shell comprises an elongated inner box and an elongated outer box. The inner box is congruently disposed in the interior region of the outer box and a core is sandwiched between the inner and outer boxes. The core includes a top surface attached to the inner box and a bottom surface attached to the outer box. The core can be made form a closed-celled material or a honeycomb material having a plurality of interconnected cylinders. Both inner and outer boxes are foldable to a generally planar configuration to minimize the volume during shipment. A casket shell in accordance with the present invention can also include a plurality of panels, each panel includes a core having a top surface and a bottom surface, first and second stabilizing surface element attached to the bottom and top surfaces, respectively. The panels connected together by a plurality of connectors to define the casket shell.
