    Abstract: A HMD includes a pair of temple arms having spring steel that wraps around the head to provide long axis compression. The spring steel arms produce a compressive force along the long axis of the head that counters the gravitational force of a weight positioned at the forehead. The weight is supported by the long axis compression, rather than resting on the nose, ears or the top of the head. The front to back, long axis compressive force frees the head from all but the smallest amount of paraphernalia and allows for the weight to be worn in a way that is comfortable and non-intrusive. The spring steel temple arms are over bent inward well beyond the smallest size head and is used with a spine material that limits how far the temple arms can bend inward. An interface layer is also attached to provide comfort to the head.

    Abstract: In the manufacture of eyeglass bows, a metal core (2) is placed in a mold (1) and is gripped at one end (3) before the mold (1) is filled with plastic material.To ensure that the metal core (2) can be held in position in the mold (1) as the plastic charge enters, the metal core (2) at that end thereof which is opposite to its gripped end (3) is joined to a tensile element (6), which extends out of the mold. The joint between the tensile element (6) and the metal core (2) forms a rated breaking point having a limited ultimate tensile strength. Before the mold (1) has been completely filled with plastic charge, a tensile stress in excess of the ultimate tensile strength of the joint is applied to the latter by the tensile element (6) so that the tensile element will be severed and pulled out of the mold (1).

    Abstract: A method of custom fitting eyeglass frames to the nose of a wearer, which is in part performed by an optician or the like and in part performed by an eyeglass frames laboratory. The optician or the like heats a preferably horseshoe shaped wax wafer until it is moldable, then positions such on the bridge area of the wearer's nose and applies pressure thereto, bending the wafer concavely to conform its shape to that of the bridge of the nose. The eyeglass frames are then situated against the convex surface of the wafer in their normal viewing position and an imprint of the nose bridge portion of the frames is made on the outer surface of the wax wafer. Finally, the wax pattern thus formed is removed from the frames and wearer's nose and cooled to fix its shape, and the outline of eyeglass frames bridge is drawn thereon.

    Abstract: Two metallic half-moulds are produced from a prototype. The half-moulds have complementary mould faces which abut when the mould is closed, and moulding surfaces formed with annular rim depressions joined by a bridge cavity, each rim depression bordering a support surface for a false lens. A webbed frame front is moulded, false lenses are cut from that moulded front, and the mould faces which abut are set-back by a total amount corresponding to the shrinkage of the false lenses, so that the false lenses are gripped between the support surfaces and shape lens bezels in the rims when a frame front is moulded.

    Abstract: A method for making eyeglass frames from thermoplastic material and the like comprising the steps of drilling four holes in the blank and placing the blank on a first fixture having two locating dowels and two expandable pins. The external frame contour is then milled and all necessary contours are milled on the front, rear, sides and ends of the frame, reversing the frame on the fixture as necessary. Finally, the frame is removed from the fixture and placed in a second fixture which engages and holds the frame externally. Lense openings and lense grooves in the walls thereof are thereafter machined.
