Abstract: A method of recovering a used pipeline from the seabed to the surface comprises attaching a recovery cap to the pipeline at the seabed to surround an end of the pipeline, and then upending at least an end portion of the pipeline underwater suspended beneath the recovery cap. While the upended pipeline is being lifted toward the surface, hydrocarbon contaminants rising buoyantly from the interior and walls of the pipeline are captured within the recovery cap, floating on water within and surrounding the pipeline. The captured contaminants are then conveyed from the recovery cap to a reservoir that is external to the recovery cap. The reservoir can be lifted toward the surface with the upended pipeline, for example, on a lifting line attached to the recovery cap. The reservoir can expand as it fills with contaminants and as hydrostatic pressure decreases, with gas from the contaminants being vented off.

Abstract: In a gripper mechanism for devices for handling objects in the form of sheets or plates, simple and easy operability of the gripper claws of pivoting gripper arms into the open position for adjustment purposes, test purposes and the like is achieved in that a manual operating element made of plastic is connected in the gripper claw operating drive between an operating lever which is mounted on the relevant gripper arm such that it can pivot, and a coupling linkage which is connected to one of the gripper claws which can pivot, and this manual operating element can pivot on the operating shaft of the gripper claw operating drive in such a manner that the claw can be caused to open easily while the machine is at rest, without any risk of injuries.

  • Patent number: 6357162
Abstract: A device (10) having a cylinder housing (12) with a bore (12a) receives a piston sleeve (14) in which a tapered bore is formed in radially movable sections extending from the piston head. A rope gripping split sleeve (16) having a tapered outer circumference and formed of separable sections which are radially movable but maintained in axial alignment is received in the tapered bore of the piston sleeve. A rope is placed in the split sleeve which is inserted in the piston sleeve and in turn in the housing bore. A valve (18) disposed in the head (14a) of the piston sleeve allows piston movement inwardly but resists outward movement of the piston, allowing a metering fluid flow providing a timed release of the rope dependent on the force level applied. In a second embodiment device (100) includes a piston rod (122) attached to the piston sleeve which extends through a guide plug (116) into a compression chamber.
