Twin Middle Bearing Patents (Class 295/38)
  • Patent number: 8246096
Abstract: A differential action railroad car wheelset axle has two individual stub axles, each having one or more annular rings or grooves on the interior ends, with the interior ends of the individual stub axles being rotatably mounted within a multi-piece sleeve assembly. The axle assembly has provision for safety pins to prevent independent rotation during installation in the railcar truck frame and also a device to permit relocking or unlocking the independent axle rotation after the original safety pins have been removed. Dry lubricant coatings eliminate the need for periodic liquid lubrication or maintenance. The differential action of the wheelset reduces the horsepower requirement by approximately 30 percent while also reducing the maintenance requirements for both wheels and track in locations where horizontal curves are predominant.

  • Patent number: 7184930
Abstract: An abnormality diagnosis system for diagnosing a presence or absence of an abnormality of a bearing unit for a railway vehicle axle, comprises a sensing/processing portion for outputting a signal generated from the bearing unit as an electric signal, a calculating/processing portion for making an abnormality diagnosis of the bearing unit based on an output of the sensing/processing portion, a result outputting portion for outputting a decision result of the calculating/processing portion, and a controlling/processing portion for feeding back a control signal to a control system of the railway vehicle based on the decision result.

  • Patent number: 6561559
Abstract: A unit comprises a double row taper rolling element bearing (1) having an inner ring means (12, 13) and an outer ring means (6), said inner ring means being fitted on an axle stub (5) between two opposite mounting faces (7, 10), means (19) being provided for preventing fretting corrosion between at least one of said mounting faces and the inner ring means. At least one mounting face and the inner ring means engage each other by means of a polymer support ring (19). The bearing unit can be applied as a railway axlebox bearing unit.

  • Patent number: 4696506
Abstract: A wheel set for rails has a divided axle and two wheels rigidly attached to he respective axle section. The axle sections are interconnected in a force transmitting manner by a clutch for adjusting a differential r.p.m. between the two axle sections. However, the clutch components also permit a relative rotation when the clutch is not energized. The clutch has an inner clutch component and an outer clutch component forming a work gap (7.4) between the clutch components. The work gap extends concentrically to the rotational axis of the shaft and is filled with a magnetizable powder for engaging and disengaging the clutch components which are so mounted to the respective axle section that an axial displacement of the clutch components relative to each other is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4529241
Abstract: Axle assembly for a railway or other types of track riding vehicle including a first axle member fixed to a first wheel to ride on one track and extending longitudinally outwardly from the wheel, with a groove adjacent the outermost end of the axle, a second wheel with a longitudinally, outwardly extending axle shaft fixed at one end to the second wheel where the outer end of the second axle shaft includes a generally cylindrical housing having an open to receive the outermost end of the first axle. A first plate is provided to be received on the open end of the housing and has a central aperture, of diameter generally equal to the diameter of the first axle member, so the first axle member extends therethrough and so the end of the first axle and the groove are located within the housing.

  • Patent number: 4058065
Abstract: The railway truck disclosed herein is provided with a split axle composed of two transverse aligned axle members each having mounted on the outer end thereof a rail wheel. The inner ends of the axle members in one embodiment are connected by means forming a movable joint between such inner ends to enable the axle members to be moved to raise the rail wheels from the tracks, such connecting means also including means to restrict the relative movements of the two axle members. In this embodiment the two axle members are pivotally connected to the vehicle by means which enables lateral movement of such members during such relative movements thereof. Means are provided to raise the jointed inner ends of such axle members to raise the rail wheels. In another embodiment, the outer end of each axle member is supported by a main load carrying floating bearing construction permitting movement of such member about a pivot point located directly above the rail.
