Additionally, the blade is positionable within the retaining mechanism so that its wing can be extended from one or the other side of the retaining mechanism. The retaining mechanism for the blade has a pivotably-attached handle to allow ergonomic adjustment of the shaving angle. The blade and retaining mechanism have associated mechanisms for retaining and aligning the blade in the retaining mechanism.

Abstract: Shaving apparatus includes a shaver head movable across the user's skin to be shaved of hair, and a cutter device carried by the shaver head and extending transversely to the direction of movement of the shaver head across the user's skin. The apparatus further includes a hair erecting device forwardly of and adjacent to the cutter device for moving the hairs towards an erect position prior to their engagement with the cutter device. The hair erecting device includes a rotary assembly carrying on its outer surface a plurality of protrusions or fins configured to engage the hairs and to move them towards an erect position during the rotation of the rotary assembly.

Abstract: Segmented guard bar wherein segments of adjacent guard bars are tapered such that the skin flow through spaces between the segments is reduced. According to one preferred, illustrated embodiment, the distance between the rearward portion of adjacent segments is less than the space between the forward portions of those segments. Though not limited to any specific type of razor, the present invention is particularly suited for use with a flexible razor head having a cap member, at least one and preferably two blades separated by a spacer, a blade seat having a plurality of blade support portions separated by corrugations, and a segmented guard bar with each segment independently connected to the blade support portions.

  • Patent number: 5461782
Abstract: A shaving kit comprises an openable, box-like body having a main portion and a lid, a blade assembly and a releasable connection for the blade assembly to said body. The body defines when closed, an inner space for housing shaving aids, in particular shaving gel or cream and optionally after-shave gel or cream, in suitably packaged form. The body has portions that match and interlock with portions of the blade assembly and is provided with a seat-shaped upper surface to support the blade assembly during the shaving operation. A hygienic cover is slidable over the blade assembly to protect the same when not in use.

  • Patent number: 5251376
Abstract: A razor head, especially a razor blade unit of a wet razor, with the razor head being disposed at the front end of a handle. A single or double razor blade is yeildingly mounted in a plastic housing that is provided with a front guide strip. To provide an improved spring or yielding mounting of the single or double razor blades, these blades are secured to a blade member that is pivotably mounted in the plastic housing so as to be pivotable against a spring force about an axis that extends parallel to the guide strip.

  • Patent number: 5199173
Abstract: A safety razor which conforms to both concave and convex body surfaces and has a handle and a curved rotatable cartridge. Shaving blades are positioned on both sides of the curved cartridge, thus, both concave and convex accurate cutting edges are obtained in a single compact cartridge. The concave surface is used when shaving convex body surfaces. Rotating the cartridge 180 degrees exposes the convex cutting surface for shaving concave body surfaces. The cartridge is rotatably mounted to the handle and is held in either concave or convex shaving positions with detents. When the alternate shaving position is desired, the cartridge is rotated 180 degrees, either manually or remotely using a push button device within the handle, which is also disclosed. The correct angular relationship of the handle to the cutting surface of the cartridge is set and maintained for both concave and convex settings by means of the detents since the amount of rotation between the two shaving settings is 180 degrees.
