    Abstract: A tool that assists in installing lap siding. The tool includes a body having a handle and a pair of vertically spaced-apart seat assemblies that define a seat distance therebetween. The lower seat assembly is adapted to engage the lower portion of a previously installed siding piece, and the upper seat assembly is adapted to support the lower portion of a siding piece to be installed at the determined reveal distance relative to the previously installed siding piece. The reveal distance is at least substantially defined by the seat distance. In some embodiments, the tool enables two or more installers to with one hand properly hold and provide for level alignment of the piece of lap siding to be installed, while at the same time enabling the installers to mechanically fasten the same with the other hand. In some embodiments, the tool is adjustable to accommodate a range of reveal sizes.

    Abstract: A single tool is provided to score the surface of aluminum or vinyl siding regardless of profile. The tool comprises an extensible measuring rail at the end of which is attached a scoring knife attached, the rail and knife being extensible from a siding guide which interlocks solely with the edge of the siding material. The measuring rail is spaced above the guide for spacing the rail and scoring blade above the surface of the siding material, thus avoiding undesirable damage to the surface as it is engaged in the tool and as the tool is drawn down the edge of the siding during scoring. The scoring knife is pivotable on the measuring rail so as to contact with the siding surface when under control of the installer and regardless of the siding profile. Further the knife is reversible for use by both right and left-handed installers.

    Abstract: A template square (10) for marking a length of floor joist lumber to be cut into a floor joist board for mounting to a support beam in the center sill support framework of a building. The template plate (10) comprises notches (26,27), slots (31), flange pieces (14,15), and tension springs (16, 17). The flange pieces (14,15) mount within the slots (31) to form a flange along the upper portion of the template square (10) so that the template square can be aligned on the floor joist lumber with the flange abutting the top edge of the lumber. So arranged, a cut-line can be traced along a side edge (22,23) of the template square (10) with the notch (26,27) spaced a predetermined distance from the flange.

    Abstract: A tool for assisting in producing a straight edge on a piece of rough cut raw material, such as lumber or masonite. The tool is held in place on top of the piece by gripping means which grip the piece along two opposite side edges. The tool's straight edge, unobstructed by clamps or other protrusions, is then used as a guide to bank against the saw fence of a table saw, radial arm saw, or circular saw, producing a straight edge on the piece. Using the tool, one can take the flat bow out of a piece and also remove the rough mill edge. The tool can also be used with a hand circular saw, jig saw, or router by running the saw directly along the tool's unobstructed straight edge.

    Abstract: A tool for lap siding installation includes a current board slot, a reference board slot and a lower surface, all three of which are disposed at an angle .alpha. from a reference surface at the top of the tool. The angle .alpha. corresponds to the angle between properly installed siding boards and the wall upon which they are installed. The current board slot has dimensions conforming to the dimensions of the siding being installed. The reference board slot is shorter than the current board slot by the amount of overlap that is desired between adjacent boards after the siding is installed. Optionally, a second set of these features with alternative dimensions can be disposed on the back of the tool making it suitable for use in installing a second type of siding when its orientation is reversed. To use the tool, a current board to be installed is lifted until it is close to its desired position and then fitted within the current board slot of the tool.

    Abstract: A cutting apparatus for cutting material into a desired shape has a first travelling member and a second travelling member which are arranged on a holding stand, on which the material to be cut is placed, and which approach and separate from each other. A cutting tool for cutting the material is mounted on each of the first and the second travelling members so as to be movable in a direction that is perpendicular to the travelling direction of each travelling member. Movement corresponding to a cutting profile required for the cutting tool to cut the material to a desired shape is imparted by controlling the first travelling member and the second travelling member and the cutting tools mounted on both travelling members. In addition, such a cutting process can be carried out by driving a numerical control to spread the cutting tools mounted on both travelling members in a laterally symmetrical relation so that an annular portion can be cut to produce shaped articles.
