A flap, such as part of the panel or the panel of one is received in a pocket formed in the panel of the other to facilitate and preferably provide releasable attachment.

    Abstract: A binder ring assembly (10) for a ring binder comprises a plurality of spaced binder rings (12-16). A user operable mechanism (18) to which the rings are attached allows the user to open and close the rings to open and close the binder. A shield (22) covers the mechanism. The binder rings protrude through the shield. A recess (26) is formed in the cover adjacent each cover location where a binder ring is located. During shipment of binder ring assemblies, one layer (L1) of assemblies is placed in a container (C) with another, inverted layer (L2) of assemblies placed over them. The outer ends of the binder rings are received in the recesses of the covers, and the depth of each recess is such that the outer end of the binder rings of the mating assembly will not come out of the recesses and rub against the non-recessed portion of the cover which, if scratched, renders the assembly unusable.

The leaf is pivotably retained along one edge on a frame, and the frame is pivotably retained at the binding spine of the host blank book. Pulling outward on the leaf causes the leaf to extend out and beyond the pages of the book allowing the pages to turn freely. When the leaf is placed within the host book, with the book open or closed, the leaf can be turned as a page, in which case it also acts as a mark to identify a specific position in the host book. Alternatively, the leaf may be pivoted on the frame to allow the host book pages to be turned past it in either direction.

Alternatively, the ring mount may be retracted into the compartment to reduce the width of the pocket binder to a size capable of being stored in a suit pocket. A second embodiment discloses a pocket binder and ringed binder combination with the pocket binder attached to the ringed binder by the insertion of the rings through the holes in the pocket binder.

    Abstract: A ring binder-based filing system including enhanced prime storage areas for storing content or information records such as an index, table of contents, glossary, or the like. The two prime storage areas in a ring binder, the Home location inside the front cover and the End location inside the rear cover, are fully exploited by providing means for displaying and protecting the underlying information records while facilitating easy replacement or updating of information records, and by providing a means for rapid access to these prime locations. Two transparent windows are provided at each prime location, one hinged to the respective cover and retained by a magnetic latch system, and the other secured to the binder rings. A Homing Tab extends from an edge of the windows secured to the binder rings and facilitates return from any internal storage location back to either one of the prime locations.
