Abstract: A marine deck member with enhanced surface traction and the process for forming the same. The marine deck member comprises a sandwich-type composite panel made by a compression molding process. In such a process, the panel is made by subjecting a heated stack of layers of material to cold-pressing in a mold. The cellular core has a 2-D array of cells, each of the cells having an axis substantially perpendicular to the outer surfaces, and extending in the space between the layers or skins, with end faces open to the respective layers or skins. The surface traction of this type of composite panel can be enhanced for marine deck applications by controlled debossing, or embossing, of the first skin while it cools in the compression mold. The debossing effect can be effected by applying pressurized gas, e.g., pressurized air, onto the outer surface of the first skin while in the compression mold.

  • Patent number: 9200471
Abstract: A mounting accessory is used for secure connection of a rail or other component to a hollow post positioned over an internal upright by a mounting device having an axial passage through which the upright extends. The accessory features interconnected walls facing into an open space left therebetween, the open space being sized to accommodate passage of the upright support therethrough with the mounting accessory oriented to situate the walls on different sides of the upright support. Each wall has an opening therein sized to accommodate a respective portion of the periphery of the mounting device. With a portion of the mounting device periphery received in the opening of each wall, the wall resides at or adjacent the periphery of the device to lie internally adjacent a respective wall of the post to provide extra material for engagement by a screw fastener driven through the post wall.

  • Patent number: 9188142
Abstract: A fastener attached to a first member releasably connects the first member to a second member. The fastener can have a head that moves towards or away from a housing that is separate from, or part of, the first member. A linkage assembly has linkage arm(s) extending from the head to the housing, or to the first member, and the fastener can be pivotally connected at a first end to the housing, or to the first member, and also to the head at a second end. Each linkage arm can define a joint located between the first and second ends. When unfastened, the head can be positioned away from the housing, extending each linkage arm. When fastened, the head may be positioned towards the housing, whereby the joint of each linkage arm can become displaced laterally in the fastener, e.g., connecting the second member to the first member.

  • Patent number: 9109618
Abstract: A blind rivet having a hollow rivet body made of plastic, an elongated shank with a bore, a head at one end of the shank and a foot end on the opposite end of the shank, and having, in the bore, a mandrel that has a mandrel shank with a drawing end and a mandrel head that acts on the foot end, the shank has a first region located between the head and the foot end, and has a second region with reduced cross-section and reduced wall thickness as compared to the first region. The regions arranged such that, as a result of a process in which the head is pressed against one side of a workpiece and the foot end is simultaneously drawn toward the other side of the workpiece with the aid of the mandrel, the wall of the shank forms a roll fold with an annular bead.

  • Patent number: 9011057
Abstract: The blind rivet for fastening together a plurality of mounted components with mounting holes comprises a rivet body having a sleeve, a flange and a through hole; a mandrel having a slender stem and a head; and a washer. The head of the mandrel is adjacent to the sleeve-side end portion of the rivet body, the stem of the mandrel extends through the rivet body from the flange-side end portion, and the washer is mounted near the flange on the outer periphery of the sleeve of the rivet body. A portion of the outer peripheral surface of the sleeve adjacent to the flange is swaged to form a recessed portion so that the diameter in the other position is enlarged. The washer is pushed onto the enlarged-diameter portion and secured. The mounted components are fastened together between the enlarged end portion of the sleeve and the washer.

Abstract: A fastener having a pin member and a sleeve. The pin includes a head, a pin tail portion, and a locking portion with a plurality of crests and roots. Each of the crests includes a first diameter, the first diameters sequentially increase along the locking portion towards the head, while the roots include a second diameter, the second diameters sequentially decrease towards the head. The sleeve has a head and a tubular portion which is deformed into a bulb that engages a workpiece. The tubular portion of the sleeve locks onto the crests and the pintail portion of the pin member breaks off at one of the grooves located substantially flush with the head of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 8979453
Abstract: A blind fastener including a pull-type core bolt having a shank with a head, and a sleeve having an elongated body with a head, and a tapered notch formed within an exterior surface thereof and defined by a tapered portion having a slope and a frictional enhanced surface. The core bolt is installed within the sleeve. During installation of the fastener within the plurality of work pieces, an axial force is applied to the core bolt the head of the core bolt engages the sleeve, and a bulb is formed on the elongated body of the sleeve, the bulb defining a portion of a bulbed portion. When a selected axial force is reached, the bulbed portion separates from the elongated body and engages axially the tapered portion of the sleeve, increasing the diameter of the bulb which engages a blind side of one of the work pieces.

Abstract: The present invention relates to headed push-in fasteners of the type produced by Penn Engineering & Manufacturing Corp. known as TackPins and TackScrews. More specifically it relates to a Tack Pin or a Tack Screw with a Belleville head that provides the functionality of a Bellville washer without needing a separate part. When installed, the compression of the Bellville shaped head will cause a permanent loading to be applied under the head of the fastener, essentially creating a clamping force to the members being attached.
