Alternating Rotation Patents (Class 416/172)
  • Patent number: 9028200
Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes a shaft defining an axis of rotation. An outer turbine rotor directly drives the shaft and includes an outer set of blades. An inner turbine rotor has an inner set of blades interspersed with the outer set of blades. The inner turbine rotor is configured to rotate in an opposite direction about the axis of rotation from the outer turbine rotor. A splitter gear system couples the inner turbine rotor to the shaft and is configured to rotate the inner set of blades at a faster speed than the outer set of blades.

  • Patent number: 8251645
Abstract: A fan with concealed oscillating mechanism includes a main housing, a first driving motor, a second driving motor and a curved link gear all located inside the main housing, and a set of blades located outside the main housing and connected to a rotating shaft of the first driving motor. The first driving motor has a connecting rod rotatably received in a receiving tube provided in the main housing. The second driving motor is located behind and connected to the first driving motor, and has a rotating shaft being perpendicular to that of the first driving motor. The curved link gear is connected at an end to the second rotating shaft and at another end to the main housing, such that when the second driving motor operates, the first driving motor is brought to oscillate while the set of blades stably rotates to thereby change the direction of produced airflow.

  • Patent number: 8096773
Abstract: A vertical axis wind turbine has a stator shaft, an electrical generator, a rotating shaft and multiple blades. The electrical generator is rotatably mounted around the stator shaft. The rotating shaft is mounted on and protrudes from the electrical generator. The multiple blades are disposed around the electrical generator and orientated to balance each other. Each blade is connected to the rotating shaft by at least one strut and has a luff edge tapering to a lee edge. The at least one strut is formed on and protrudes from the blade is connected to the rotating shaft. The blades are rotated by the wind independent of wind direction and rotate the electrical generator to convert wind power into electric power.

  • Patent number: 7955046
Abstract: A gas turbine engine is disclosed that includes a spool having a compressor section. An inlet case is arranged axially upstream from the compressor section. A gearbox is secured to the inlet case. The gearbox couples the spool and a fan. A sealing assembly is arranged between the inlet case and the gearbox to provide a sealed bearing compartment. The inlet case, gearbox and seal assembly provide a module. A fastening element removably secures the module to the spool. The gas turbine engine can be serviced by disconnecting the fastening element from the engine core. The gearbox and inlet case can be removed as a module from the engine core without disassembling the gearbox.

  • Patent number: 7931439
Abstract: An improved coaxial rotor assembly for a helicopter includes an upper rotor system having a multiple of upper rotor blades each having outer tips and mounted on and extending outwards from a central rotor shaft and a lower rotor system having a multiple of lower rotor blades each having outer tips and mounted on and extending outwards from the central rotor shaft with the upper rotor system spaced an axial distance from the lower rotor system on the central rotor shaft. A rotor blade support ring extends circumferentially around each of the upper and lower rotor systems which movably engages and supports the outer tips of the upper and lower rotor blades in spaced apart relation such that the upper and lower rotor systems rotate in opposite directions and the rotor blade support ring means prevents contact between the upper and lower rotor systems during operation thereof.

  • Patent number: 7862292
Abstract: A paddle wheel-driven horizontal wave generator system which is situated on the ocean shore for converting shore waves to unidirectional rotational force for generating power. By the use of a pair of one-way clutches on a single power shaft the incoming and outgoing motion of ocean waves is converted into continuous unidirectional rotational force to drive an electric generator. The generator system is attached to a base having troughs. The lower portions of the paddle wheels are positioned in the troughs, and engage incoming and outgoing shore waves which rotate the axle of the paddle wheels in a clockwise and counterclockwise direction. The one-way clutches convert the bi-directional rotation of the paddle wheel axle to unidirectional rotation of the power shaft.

  • Patent number: 6524078
Abstract: A pond pump having a housing (1) enclosing a synchronous motor (9) with a drive shaft (40) on which an impeller (20) is loosely fitted so that, on start up, the shaft (40) can rotate relative to the impeller (20) until a pair of diametrically opposed keyways (43) on the shaft engage and entrain keyways (27) on the impeller (20) to rotate it continuously in one direction. If the drive shaft initially rotates in the opposite direction, pegs (25) on the rear face of the impeller (20) engage with a detent (60) located behind the impeller (20) to stop said rotation until the motor (9) restarts and rotates the drive shaft (43) in said first direction. One end of the drive shaft (40) is received in a first bearing (50) mounted in the housing (1), the other end of said shaft being received in a blind bore (28) in the impeller (20) which is coaxial with the axis of rotation of the shaft (40).

  • Patent number: 6499951
Abstract: A fan head-swinging device includes a speed reducer and a DC motor. The speed reducer consists of plural gears engaging with each other. The DC motor is fixed behind a housing of a fan, having a spindle fixed on with a small gear engaging with one of the plural gears of the speed reducer. So the shaft of that gear may rotate with a very slow speed suitable to the fan head to swing right and left for a proper angle by controlling the DC motor.
