Abstract: The present disclosure describes systems and methods for creating sharp features within a mold. For example, three or more mold plates may be provided to create a single mold assembly. Each mold plate includes one or more mold cavities, each having one or more surfaces. The provided mold plates may be assembled to form the mold assembly having a combined mold cavity between adjacent mold cavities of the mold plates. Although none of the individual mold cavities of the mold plates include sharp features, when the mold assembly is assembled, a combined mold cavity will include sharp transitions (e.g., angles of less than 180 degrees, right angles, angles of less than 90 degrees, and so forth) between adjacent surfaces of the mold cavities. In certain embodiments, sets of mold plates may be re-aligned to create varying mold cavity geometries. • Patent number: 8123515
Abstract: This invention provides single-step pultrusion processes for producing fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) articles that may have variable cross sections and/or non-linear shapes. This unique capability results from the use of two sets of dies to form the article. The first is a set of moving dies connected together to form mating continuous loops of moving die links to: a) draw the FRP material into the apparatus; b) shape the cross section of the FRP material; c) cut the FRP material to the appropriate length; and d) hold the uncut FRP material in position for the next production cycle. The second set of dies forms a guide path mounted on opposing conveyers. The guide path includes heated die segments to define a curing section that may be non-linear. Cycling the moving die links through the curing section and/or cycling the conveyers provides a straightforward method for automated production of finished pultruded articles with unique shapes.

  • Patent number: 7306441
Abstract: High pressure synthesis of various crystals such as diamond, cBN and the like can be carried out using reaction assemblies suitable for use in methods such as temperature gradient methods. The reaction assembly can be oriented substantially perpendicular to gravity during application of high pressure. Orienting the reaction assembly in this manner can avoid detrimental effects of gravity on the molten catalyst, e.g., convection, hence increasing available volumes for growing high quality crystals. Multiple reaction assemblies can be oriented in series or parallel, each reaction assembly having one or more growth cells suitable for growth of high quality crystals. Additionally, various high pressure apparatuses can be used. A split die design allows for particularly effective results and control of temperature and growth conditions for individual crystals.
