    Abstract: A wedge device for a press for controllably exerting high amounts of force in a clamping operation during a semiconductor packaging process and for facilitating a linear force output in relation to its input. The wedge device is powered by a servo motor which is coupled to a planetary screw by a set of pulleys and a timing belt. The screw is mated with a nut which is prevented from rotating so that the rotation of the screw causes the nut to move in a linear direction. Metal extensions join the nut to a bottom wedge such that the wedge moves together with the nut. Slidably disposed on top of the bottom wedge is a block bearing firmly attached to a complementary wedge. The complementary wedge is free to move in a vertical direction but not in a horizontal direction. As the bottom wedge moves in a horizontal direction, the complementary wedge moves in a vertical direction. The complementary wedge is placed underneath a press to provide the clamping force necessary for a semiconductor packaging operation.

    Abstract: An adjustable clamping or locking wedge is disclosed for use in an injection mold press. The clamping wedge has a main body portion with a main oblique wedging surface adapted to be engaged by a moving portion of a closing mold. The main body portion has a second oblique wedging surface located transversely of the main oblique wedging surface. A wedge is located for sliding engagement against the second wedging surface and supports the main body portion, and a threaded fastener is mounted between the main body portion and the wedge for moving the wedge and adjusting the position of the main oblique wedging surface in the mold press.

    Abstract: A composite-material structure of T-shaped cross section has a horizontal plate and an integral vertical web. The vertical web is formed between opposite forming faces of die members, and the horizontal plate is formed between the die members and a horizontal pressing plate positioned above or below the die members. In order to urge the die members against each other for forming, wedges are provided. The die members, pressing plate and wedges are placed between a lower stationary part and an upper movable part of a pressing machine. When the movable part descends towards the stationary part, the wedges exert forces to the die members to urge the members toward each other due to a wedge action, and the pressing plate is vertically urged against the die members.

    Abstract: A motor-operated die clamp mechanism produces a great clamping force even with use of small-output motors, and is adapted for use in a motor-operated injection-molding machine. Screw portion (13a, 13b), threaded reversely to each other, are formed on a ball screw (13) which is rotated by a motor (15). Ball nuts (11, 12), which are threadedly engaged with the screw portions (13a, 13b), respectively, and a movable wedge (6) are coupled to one another links (9, 10). As the motor rotates, the links contract or spread, thereby advancing or retreating the movable wedge with a great force. When the movable wedge advances, it is engagedly pressed against a fixed wedge (5) formed on the mold base (4) of a die (3), thereby causing the die to be fixedly mounted on a stationary board (1) or a movable board (2).

    Abstract: A system for injection molding a hollow, plastic product having an end wall and a cylindrical or approximately cylindrical side wall, wherein the end wall includes a fringe region bordering the end wall. The system includes a mold-cavity-forming combination of a core section and a cavity section, wherein the core section includes a protractable and retractable ram-shaped contact element, with the end of the contact element that faces the mold cavity including a contact surface that contacts at least a significant part of the fringe region of the end-wall-defining portion of the cavity section. When the contact element is protracted to a forward position so that the contact surface contacts the cavity section, the area of the mold cavity as projected on a plane perpendicular to the mold opening direction is reduced, which thus reduces the clamping force required during the injection of plastic material.

    Abstract: A clamping device of this invention is constructed of bases on which molds are slidably moved, regulating portions each provided above the corresponding base and having a clamping surface which is inclined relative to the base, shifting means provided beside the bases and for shifting each mold placed on the base in a direction to which the space between the base and the clamping surface progressively narrows and a spacer fixedly mounted on the upper surface of the mold, the upper surface of which being in the form of an arc in a direction to which the mold is moved. In use, each of the molds placed on the base is moved by the shifting means. The mold is then sandwiched between the base and the clamping surface and clamped to a wedge configuration.
