  • Patent number: 8993031
Abstract: A method of making a gel-type livestock feed includes initially forming a feed mixture by mixing feed nutrient components, water, alginate, and a calcium component insoluble in water or a sequestrate to inhibit the calcium component from reacting with the alginate. Once the feed mixture is formed, the calcium component is solubilized or the sequestrates affecting the reactivity between the alginate and the calcium component is removed such that a gel feed is formed that includes a gel matrix containing the feed nutrient components. The gel feed may then be fed to the livestock. In another aspect of the present invention, piglets are weaned by feeding the gel feed for at least seven days directly after weaning. The gel feed may also include protein derived from blood with or without egg protein.

  • Patent number: 8916213
Abstract: A process for the production of animal feed additives from fermentation broth containing L-lysine is disclosed. The process does not require filtering of biomass in order to remove the biomass and produces granulated lysine of controllable lysine content with a high bulk density, low viscosity, and a low hygroscopic property which does not require the addition of an anti-absorptive substance. In this process, a lysine fermentation broth produced after slant culture, flask culture, seed process, and cultivation process is concentrated to a solid content of about 44˜52%. A product with low hygroscopicity, high bulk density, and the intended amount of contents is produced after being mixed with substances for controlling the amount of contents and granulated by coating the surface of the seeds. This process enables a production of animal feed additives having a lysine-HCl content of at least 65%, a water content of at most 3%, and a bulk density of 670±50 kg/m3.

  • Patent number: 8802180
Abstract: A micronutrient supplement which is made by reacting a metal oxide, or metal hydroxide, or metal carbonate of an essential mineral and an acid and/or a metal salt of an essential mineral containing a digestible binder to form a slurry of micronutrient crystals and a digestible binder and forming agglomerated particles of the micronutrient crystals from the slurry. The agglomerated particles provide a non-dusting, free-flowing micronutrient supplement that can be produced with desired particle sizes and densities so as to be easily mixed with a variety of feed mixtures. The digestible binder in the agglomerated particles reduces the opportunity for interactions between the micronutrient crystals and other ingredients that can be present in complex feed mixtures while allowing release of the micronutrients in an animal's digestive system.

  • Patent number: 8192773
Abstract: A stabilized carotenoid-based pigmenter free of synthetic antioxidants for the addition to animal feed to add color to tissues of animals fed the animal feed. The carotenoid-based pigmenter contains free-form carotenoids obtained from natural sources through a saponification reaction. A natural antioxidant, such as grape seed extracts, green tea extracts, clove bud oil, clove leaf oil, Vitamin C, cinnamon leaf oil, oleoresin turmeric, tocopherol, tocotrienol, rosemary extracts and gallic acid or salts thereof combined with a diluent, preferably glycerol or a glycerol-like substance, is added to the pigmenter after the saponification reaction.

  • Patent number: 8182851
Abstract: This invention provides a control release formulation or rumen-bypass dietary supplement in compacted form. The formulation or supplement has the capability to transport fatty acid calcium salt and between about 1-75 percent of one or more rumen-protected undegraded biologically active agents to the post-ruminal digestive system of a ruminant. A feedstock containing the formulation or supplement for ruminants beneficially improves feed efficiency and body growth. The feedstock also is adapted to improve the lactational performance of dairy cattle.
