    Abstract: There is disclosed a method of surface mounting a connector which enables a connector to be automatically mounted while preserving reliability of soldered portions and without additionally providing a special apparatus. In surface mounting the connector on the printed circuit board, a hook member is inserted into a through hole formed in advance through the printed circuit board. Then, the reflow process is carried out on the printed circuit board whereby terminals of the chips including the lead pins are soldered. The printed circuit board is removed from a reflow furnace, and cooled, whereupon the hook member is bent toward a hooking portion side. This brings the hooking portion into engagement with the underside of the printed circuit board, whereby the connector is firmly fixed to the printed circuit board.

    Abstract: A compression attachment/contact system, for interconnecting microelectronic circuits and cable assemblies, provides capability of electrical shielding, characteristic-impedance control, and resistive loading and dampening. It utilizes cylindrical conducting elements that can be configured in high-density multi-connector arrays that are mounted in cylindrical through-openings provided of a housing panel. Each conducting element can be made resistive to affect a series resistor within the connection or be highly conductive for minimum electrical power loss. Each conducting element has an opposing attachment end and contact end. The attachment end can be made in different shapes to receive stripped interconnecting wire. The contact end electrically engages an external mating connector, where engagement is either applied under pressure or attached with solder or a weld. Each conducting element is surrounded by a tubular sleeve fitted into the cylindrical through-opening of the housing panel.

The terminal has a slit that allows the terminal to be elastically deformable in a radial direction. The inserted portion has a tapered part with a diameter decreasing gradually in the insertion direction. The maximum outer diameter portion of the tapered part makes a circumferential linear elastic contact with a contact region. When the tapered part is inserted into the hole, it gradually contracts elastically. This allows the terminal to have a low insertion resistance.
