Variable Speed In Forward Or Reverse Patents (Class 476/18)
  • Patent number: 7207918
Abstract: A mechanical continuously variable transmission in which the power roller is in “line contact” with the counter roller instead of conventional “pinpoint contact”. By utilizing line contact of the power roller and the counter roller, the pressure force between the metal components of a mechanical continuously variable transmission can be reduced. In addition, the line contact also reduces extra energy for maintaining the operation thereof. The configuration of the roll surface of the power roller, which is rotated by a rotation axle connected to an input axle, is formed into a partial configuration of a sphere. A plurality of counter rollers, which are in line contact with the power roller having said roll surface, are arranged in a circle by a disk. Each counter roller is formed with a concave roll surface corresponding to the partial configuration of the sphere on the surface thereof. The counter rollers are driven to rotate by the rotation of the power roller in contact therewith.

  • Patent number: 6829991
Abstract: A printing unit of an offset printing press includes a first plate cylinder, a first blanket cylinder for selectively contacting the first plate cylinder, a first inker for inking the first plate cylinder, a second plate cylinder, a second blanket cylinder for selectively contacting the second plate cylinder, and a second inker for inking the second plate cylinder. A first inker drive gear connects to the first inker for driving the first inker, and a motor uniquely associated with the printing unit is configured to drive the first inker drive gear. In addition, a gear train engaging the first inker drive gear is driven by the first inker drive gear so as to drive the first plate cylinder, the first blanket cylinder, the second blanket cylinder, the second plate cylinder and the second inker.

Abstract: A pressure vessel for a variable sheave pulley includes a tubular portion which is fitted to a cylindrical extension on the sheave. A groove within the cylindrical extension retains an O-ring seal, which is compressed by the tubular portion during assembly and retained in that compressed state during operation. The tubular portion has an end which is crimped into an annular groove formed between the cylindrical portion of the pulley and an inner wall or radial wall of the pulley. The O-ring seal is unaffected by the crimping operation or by pulley deflection, which occurs during power transmission.

Abstract: A continuously variable transmission is disclosed for use in rotationally or linearly powered machines and vehicles. The transmission provides a simple manual shifting method for the user. Further, the practical commercialization of traction roller transmissions requires improvements in the reliability, ease of shifting, function and simplicity of the transmission. The present invention includes a continuously variable transmission that may be employed in connection with any type of machine that is in need of a transmission. For example, the transmission may be used in (i) a motorized vehicle such as an automobile, motorcycle, or watercraft, (ii) a non-motorized vehicle such as a bicycle, tricycle, scooter, exercise equipment or (iii) industrial equipment, such as a drill press, power generating equipment, or textile mill.

  • Patent number: 6030311
Abstract: A control system for a toroidal type continuously variable transmission which incorporates a toroidal continuously variable gear mechanism comprising an input and an output toroidal disk and a roller disposed between the input and output toroidal disks and continuously varies a gear ratio according to inclinations of the roller actuates a stepping motor, when a specific driving condition which causes the continuously variable transmission to switch between a first and a second control mode and directional reversal of torque transmission through the toroidal continuously variable gear mechanism occurs with a result of causing a shift of the roller from one side to another side of the neutral position, to operate a double-slider shift valve to cause the shift of the roller in advance.

  • Patent number: 5626354
Abstract: A continuously variable friction drive transmission for a bicycle is provided by driving the rear bicycle wheel by frictional engagement with a rotating rim driver. The rim driver has a lateral conical surface matching a lateral conical surface of a driver plate. A transmission driver wheel is selectively positioned between the lateral conical surfaces of the rim driver and driver plate. The position along a shifting arm of the transmission driver wheel determines the speed ratios obtained between the driver plate and rim driver. The driver plate is then rotated by the pedal assembly through a speed increasing coupling. The transmission driver wheel is always in contact with the driver plate.
