  • Patent number: 8904584
Abstract: A cellular cushioning system includes cells or support units arranged in one or more stacked arrays. The cells are hollow chambers that resist deflection due to compressive forces, similar to compression springs. The arrays are attached to one or more intermedial binding layers. The intermedial binding layer(s) links the cells together while allowing the cells to deform independently of one another. An external load compresses of one of the void cells within an independent compression range without significantly compressing at least one void cell adjacent the compressed void cell. The independent compression range is the displacement range of the compressed void cell that does not significantly affect the compression of adjacent void cells. If the void cell is compressed beyond the independent compression range, the intermedial binding layers may be deflected and/or the void cells adjacent the compressed void cell may be compressed.

Abstract: Generally, the present invention is directed to a cellular air loss mattress system comprising an air mattress and an air supply means. Cells of the mattress system are welded onto a unitary top piece and a unitary bottom piece. Means for supplying air, preferably an air blower, is connected to the center cell (also referred to as the pelvic cell) via a supply hose. The air exiting the air blower travels through the supply hose and fills the center cell. The air is allowed to directly travel into adjacent cells via internal air connectors. The inner diameter of each air connector is adjusted to create different pressure zones within the air mattress to support the different pressure requirements of a patient's body. The highest pressure zone is the center cell that initially receives air from the air supply means. The pressure decreases as air moves from the center cell to adjacent cells.

Abstract: An electric cradle including a crib, a main support disposed under the crib to support the crib and two swinging frames pivotally connecting the main support with two ends of the crib. A swinging mechanism is used to swing the swinging frames so as to swingingly drive the crib to form an electric cradle. The two swinging frames can be alternatively removed from the crib and the length of the main support can be adjusted in order to permit direct securing of the two ends of the crib to the main support. In addition, the height of the side fences of the cribs can be adjusted to meet the standing height of an infant, whereby the electric cradle can be transformed into a fixed crib.

  • Patent number: 5515560
Abstract: A frame for a soft sided waterbed has four rails of foam covered with vinyl or other water impervious sheet. The cover sheet extends completely around each foam rail, and a central portion extends across the frame to the opposite foam rail. A reinforcing sheet can be coextensive with the central portion if needed. The cover sheet is then sealed to itself at each foam rail, so the frame defines a waterproof safety liner integrally therewith. The cover sheet may have holes in each corner, on the bottom of the frame, so the foam rails can be removed and reinserted. This allows the frame to be shipped in "knocked-down" condition and assembled by the user.

Each chamber is defined by an upper surface sheet and a lower surface sheet, the upper surface sheet of one chamber positioned below an adjacent chamber being securely attached to the lower surface sheet of an adjacent chamber. The lift bag can be operated at pressures of about 15 psig at specified heights which allows greater flexibility compared to conventional, single-chambered lift bag which operate at pressures of about 7 psig. Preferably, all seams, reinforcements, and fittings are vulcanized in place using uncured rubber coated fabric. Grommets or other securing means may provide further stability to the lift bag.

  • Patent number: 5173974
Abstract: An article of furniture which is convertible to form a crib, a youth bed, or an adult bed. The crib is produced through the interconnection of a rear panel, a right side panel, a left side panel, a front panel and a mattress support frame. This interconnection of parts provides a substantially rectangular configuration having the mattress support frame horizontally disposed therein. The front panel is comprised of at least a lower section and an upper gate section. The upper access gate section permits a greater access to the confines of the crib. The crib is converted to a youth bed through the removal of the upper gate section and the downward vertical displacement of the mattress support frame. The lower section functions as a "roll bar" purposed to prevent a toddler from rolling off of the edge of a mattress. The roll bar may be eliminated by inverting the lower section.
