The apparatus of this invention moves the nozzles in a continuous motion during normal operation without having to successivley stop and reverse at the end each path as in the prior art filter cleaning devices.

Abstract: For regenerating an exhaust gas particulate collecting filter, there is provided an exhaust gas particulate purifying process in which damage to the filter caused by a thermal action can be prevented and further electric power can be saved when an electric current supply to an electric heater attached to the filter is controlled. In the filter container (4), an electric heater (21) is provided on an end surface of the filter on an upstream side with respect to a regenerating gas flow, or provided at a position close to the end surface. Also, a temperature sensor (22) for measuring a temperature of the filter is provided inside the filter or at a position close to an end surface of the filter opposite to the aforementioned end surface.

Abstract: A device for filtering hot and dusty gases. The device uses hollow filter components. The components are accommodated in groups in a filter housing (1). Every group communicates with a filtered-gas manifold (21) outside the housing by way of a supply line (9) and a filtered-gas line (11). The supply lines extend individually out of the housing. A valve (13) is accommodated in every supply line. An instrument that determines the state of the filtered gas can also be accommodated in every supply line and/or filtered-gas line.

Abstract: A method of monitoring filter components. The components are hollow and employed for filtering hot and dusty gases. They are accommodated in groups in a housing. Each group communicates through a single supply line with a filtered-gas line. The filtered-gas line conveys the filtered gas away. A sweeper is injected in the form of a gas into each supply line in cycles at higher pressure. The sweeping cycle is recorded. Measurement is carried out in the flow of sweeper and/or of filtered gas. The result of the measurement is compared with the record and an alarm released in the event of a discrepancy.

Abstract: A vacuum cleaning system having a receptacle of non-porous material, such as a plastics bag (65), adapted to safely receive and hold hazardous material such as asbestos fibre. Vacuum is applied by a fan (86) to a suction chamber (69) and then through a filter (71) to an intermediate chamber (63) and via a suction pipe (61) to the bag (65). Waste material is sucked into the bag through an inlet pipe (67). The filter is cleaned periodically by admitting atmospheric air through a pulse valve (74) causing an inrush of air through the filter (71) and into the bag (65), cleaning the filter and intermediate chamber (63).

  • Patent number: 4681604
Abstract: A fluid filter (10) comprises a plurality of separate filtration chamber (14-18) with a fluid inlet (12) and a fluid outlet (13). All of the filtration chambers (14-18) are identical and each contain two vertically-spaced doors (28, 29) on one end and two similarly vertically-spaced doors (30,31) on the other end. In addition, each of the filtration chambers (14-18), includes a trap door (33) through which accumulated particulate matter is discharged. The filtration chambers (14-18) are defined as first and second filtration stages and a cleaning stage. By sequencing the opening and closing of doors (28, 29, 30 and 31) the interconnection between the filtration chambers (14-18) is changed. As particulate matter is accumulated on the inner surface of a filtration medium (25) the first and second filtration stages and cleaning stages are changed so that each of the chambers (14-18), in turn, serve as all or part of the first filtration stage, second filtration stage and cleaning stage.

  • Patent number: 4565555
Abstract: A unique hybrid shop-style and continuous-duty vacuum collector using a large diameter filter has the advantages and capabilities of both specialized types. Because of efficient design and the use of pleated paper, the effective filter surface area is many times that of a conventional shop vacuum. This enables extended runs between filter cleanings in a reliable portable machine intended for both the hobbyist and the commercial shop operator. The filter cleaning mechanism breaks away the dirt accumulated on the filter surfaces by means of a plurality of shock generators symmetrically located at the filter circumference. These peripherally-generated shocks and the resulting filter oscillations are efficiently distributed by the design to be exactly parallel to the pleated paper surfaces, in order to protect the filter from damage. A mechanical sail interlock prevents further damage by precluding accidental activation of the filter cleaning mechanism during the dirt collection process.

  • Patent number: 4557738
Abstract: A unique hybrid shop-style and continuous-duty vacuum collector of reasonable size offers the advantages and capabilities of both specialized types, by substantially multiplying the conventional shop vacuum effective filter surface area, while preserving machine portability. The preferred embodiment employs three cylindrical pleated-paper filters to collect a wide range of sizes and weights of mixed dust and particulate debris. It is intended for both the hobbyist and the commercial shop operator who desire extended runs between filter cleanings. The filter cleaning mechanism efficiently breaks away the filtered accumulation, but protects the filter material from damage, by the carefully oriented application of mechanical shocks to generate cleaning oscillations of the filter surfaces only in their own planes. A mechanical sail interlock prevents additional filter damage by precluding accidental activation of the filter cleaning mechanism during the dirt collection process.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for regenerating a filter trap used to collect particulates from the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus comprises: (a) an assembly providing a flow of a heat transfer medium through the filter trap: (b) an assembly for heating the heat transfer medium to a temperature effective to incinerate the particulates in the filter trap: and (c) a flow mask stationed in the flow of heat transfer medium, upstream from said filter trap, effective to divert the heat transfer medium away from the radially inner zone of the filter trap while guiding the heat transfer medium to engage and ignite the particulates along a radially outer region of the filter trap. The mask is a circular disc and spaced upstream from the filter trap effective to mask a central core area of the flow of heat transfer medium.

Abstract: Particle-laden gas passes downwardly through an inlet duct into inlets of several wedge-shaped deceleration chambers formed by vertical plates radiating from a central region below the bottom of the inlet duct. The inner ends of the plates and the inlet of the chambers are vertically below the bottom of the inlet duct. In each chamber the gas first proceeds towards a particle exit at the bottom of the chamber, then reverses direction and passes upwardly into filter units above wider parts of the chamber, depositing some heavy particles near the particle exit. To purge the chambers and filter units, a suction device is connected to an outlet duct and one or more inlets to the chambers are closed off from the inlet duct simultaneously with the particle exit(s) of the same chamber(s) being connected to the outlet duct.
