  • Patent number: 4237690
Abstract: A piston return stop device for seat belt tensioning equipment. Connected at one end to a seat belt through a cylinder is a piston having a tapered portion the diameter of which enlarges toward its other end. A cylindrical sliding member is slidably disposed between the cylinder and piston so as to slide together with the piston when the piston is thrust to tension the seat belt. A respective stopper member is slidably disposed within each guide groove radially perforated through the cylindrical sliding member and supported by the tapered portion of the piston. When the piston is thrust through the cylinder at an urgent time until the tension force of the seat belt reaches a predetermined value, the piston is stopped from moving within the cylinder furthermore and only the cylindrical sliding member slides within the cylinder due to its inertia force together with the stopper members. Then the stopper member is pushed up by the tapered portion of the piston to cut into the inner wall of the piston.

Abstract: An automatic impact delivering device or tool of the internal combustion type having a self-contained fuel supply, wherein:1. valving is an integral function of the piston;2. a pre-compression chamber and a combustion chamber are provided in the same structure;3. there is only one major moving part;4. a spark plug is fired by an ignition means, the ignition means being movable to enable the operator to change the power output of the device by changing the compression ratio of the fuel and air mixture in the combustion chamber;5. a fuel metering system is an integral part of the piston and cylinder, thus not requiring any additional moving parts; and6. the device is loaded by a single spring disposed wholly internally thereof.

  • Patent number: 4196834
Abstract: A noise reducer for a powder actuated fastening tool comprises a barrel including inner and outer cylindrical walls which are radially spaced to define a gas expansion chamber between them. The chamber is adapted to receive combustion gases through ports or passages in the inner wall, and the gases may be exhausted from the chamber in any appropriate manner, preferably at a location adjacent the front end of the tool. The outer wall of the barrel can thus be made to slidingly fit within the tool receiver, while porting of the expansion chamber can be such as to induce a favorable flow pattern to the combustion gases passing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4091621
Abstract: A piston, normally contained within a cylinder, is projected by electrical detonation of an explosive charge which is contained within the cylinder between the piston and a sealed end of the cylinder through which a detonation contact extends to the charge. A split ring, retained in an annular peripheral groove in the piston, is normally contained under compression within the cylinder, but is resiliently expandible to a diameter larger than the internal diameter of the cylinder when released therefrom by projection of the piston under the expanding gases of the detonated charge, and thereby becomes operative, by abutting engagement with the end of the cylinder, to lock the piston in its projected position, and to hold the reactive load of whatever machine part has been actuated by the piston.

Abstract: In an explosive charge-driven fastening element setting gun having a casing and a muzzle tube axially displaceably mounted in the casing, a damping housing is arranged to receive explosive gases passing laterally out of the gun. The damping housing surrounds the gun and is formed of two parts, one fitting into the other in a telescoping manner. One part is attached to the muzzle tube and the other part is fixed to the casing. Packing is secured to one of the parts and extends into contact with the other part in the region where the parts are telescopically fitted together.

  • Patent number: 4008780
Abstract: Device for tensioning safety belts in vehicles in which one end of the safety belt is securable to the vehicle and the other end of the belt is securable to the tensioning device. The device includes a cylinder having a piston with a piston rod extending from one side of the piston out of the cylinder to which the safety belt is securable. The piston is provided with a recess receiving an electrically ignitable propellant charge cartridge such that upon ignition of the cartridge propellant gases are generated which flow into the cylinder at the piston rod side of the piston for causing the piston and piston rod to be displaced into the cylinder to effect a tensioning of the safety belt.
