  • Patent number: 7152448
Abstract: An apparatus that continuously processes a metal workpiece without substantially altering its cross section includes a wheel member having an endless circumferential groove, and a stationary constraint die that surrounds the wheel member, covers most of the length of the groove, and forms a passageway with the groove. The passageway has a rectangular shaped cross section. An abutment member projects from the die into the groove and blocks one end of the passageway. The wheel member rotates relative to the die in the direction toward the abutment member. An output channel in the die adjacent the abutment member has substantially the same cross section as the passageway. A metal workpiece is fed through an input channel into the passageway and carried in the groove by frictional drag in the direction towards the abutment member, and is extruded through the output channel without any substantial change in cross section.

  • Patent number: 7069760
Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to propose a new way of manufacturing curved metal tubes or rods with arbitrary sections and eliminating the conventional bending defects such as thinning and thickening in the wall of tube, distortion of the section, and wrinkling and folding on the surface by the extrusion bending process that can extrude and weld together one or more billets inside dies cavity, and can bend them during extrusion due to the gradient of extrusion velocities controlled by the eccentricity of the cavity sections between the entrance and the exit of the eccentric conical extrusion bending dies and conical plug, or by the relative size of the holes of multi-hole container, or by the relative moving velocity of multi-punches.

  • Patent number: 6865919
Abstract: The apparatus for operating on a workpiece includes a die defining first and second apertures and an interior therebetween. The first aperture and the interior of the die are structured to receive the workpiece. The interior of the die can be structured to shape the workpiece into a predetermined configuration. The apparatus includes at least one rotatable pin extending at least partially into the interior of the die. The pin is structured to at least partially stir the workpiece as the workpiece moves through the interior of the die to thereby refine the grain structure of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5335527
Abstract: A two wheel type continuous extrusion apparatus has two rotary wheels having grooves receiving covering material rods, a fixed shoe block arranged therebetween and an abutement receiving a core metal wire. Covering material inlet apertures are provided for communicating passage-ways receiving the covering material rods to a covering chamber for extruding the covering material on the core metal wire to manufacture a composite metal wire. The covering material inlet apertures are inclined relative to a line connecting rotary axes of the rotary wheels such that the covering chamber is positioned on the side of supplying of the covering material rods relative to the connecting line. Consequently, a constraining force for constraining a shoe block becomes small.

  • Patent number: 4635460
Abstract: Method of plastically deforming a body of malleable solid material between male and female dies which are forcible pressed together. The material is subjected to repeated identical pressing cycles; in each pressing cycle the force between the dies is concentrated consecutively on separate sections of the surface of the material being deformed. The body may be directly or indirectly extruded into an elongated shape from a location between the male and female dies which is disposed nearest the section of the surface of the material being deformed in each pressing cycle, or it may be deformed between the dies without any appreciable portion thereof escaping from between the dies.

  • Patent number: 4536938
Abstract: A process is described for the production of solid alkali metal strands, whereby molten alkali metal is introduced to an extrusion apparatus and is continuously cooled down as the metal travels along a section of the extrusion apparatus by means of a worm. There is a temperature gradient between the point at which the molten alkali metal enters the extruder down to a temperature below its solidification point near the nozzle, at which the metal is still sufficiently ductile for extrusion, and is then fed to a nozzle for shaping into the stands.

  • Patent number: 4208898
Abstract: A process and device for carrying out the process allows for the extrustion of composite sections comprising a beam-like section made of a light metal and at least one insert made of another metal which provides a facing on at least one surface of the beam-like section. The beam-like section, which may be a conductor rail, is produced by extruding through a shape-giving die whereby at least two composite sections are produced simultaneously and the facing strips are positioned pairwise between opposite lying parts of the beam-like sections. The present invention allows the facing strips to be introduced into the extrusion device without the extreme bending previously experienced. Brittle materials which could not withstand the extreme bending experienced heretofore can now be used for facing material.
