  • Patent number: 8261631
Abstract: A rotary machine may have multiple stations that have a linear motion operated by a cam and a rotational motion operated by individual motors mounted on each station. Each station may perform a motion profile that is proportional to the machine's central axis rotation or, in some cases, independent of the central axis rotation. In some embodiments, each station may rotate to orient a part prior to processing. In one embodiment, the cam driven linear motion may enable a station to lower for loading and unloading, then raise for processing. The rotary machine may have various mechanisms at each station for processing a part. One such embodiment is a rotary machine that may be outfitted with compound dispensing mechanisms at each station.

  • Patent number: 7674217
Abstract: The present invention provides a machine tool with a spindle chuck replacing mechanism which is simply configured to enable a reduction in time for work replacement without the need to sense the rotation speed of a spindle chuck or the like. The machine tool includes a pre-rotation-transmission mechanism 7 transmits rotation of a spindle motor 4, via a path different from a chuck coupling portion 3a of a spindle 3, to a spindle chuck 5 placed in a processing position P1 and not coupled the chuck coupling portion 3a. The pre-rotation-transmission mechanism 7 makes a difference in rotation speed between the spindle chuck 5 and the spindle 3. The pre-rotation-transmission mechanism 7 has a speed difference absorbing mechanism 23 that absorbs the difference in rotation speed with the spindle chuck 5 coupled to the chuck coupling portion 3a.

  • Patent number: 4785513
Abstract: A compound turret for machine tools such as latches or the like having rotating and non-rotating tooling turrets mounted on a single housing. The compound turret includes a primary drive and a secondary drive. The primary drive includes a compound turret indexing unit operable to index the rotating and non-rotating tooling turrets into the turret operating and turret storage positions. The compound turret indexing unit consists of a harmonic drive that enables the operator to incrementally vary the turret operating position. The harmonic drive achieves high reduction ratios in a single stage thus eliminating the cumbersome gear systems usually implemented to achieve the reduction ratios required. The primary drive further includes a non-rotating tool indexing unit. The non-rotating tool indexing unit is operable to index the non-rotating tooling. The non-rotating tool indexing unit consists of a harmonic drive unit similar to the compound turret indexing unit.

  • Patent number: 4250761
Abstract: In computerized tomographic apparatus having an intermittent rotational motion the scanning time can be reduced by increasing the rotation speed. However this can result in excessive forces being transmitted to the stationary mainframe of the equipment. The invention reduces that problem by balancing the forces of rotation at least in part by appropriately placed counter masses. In one embodiment the counter masses rotate and properly balance the forces. In another embodiment they move linearly and delay the application of the forces to the mainframe and transmit the delayed forces over a longer period.
