In the holder, when the housing is attached to the clip, the bit may be mounted to the tool and the tool may be operated to rotate the bit; and when the bit is removed from the tool, the bit is still attached to the housing which is still attached to the clip. The housing may be shaped and sized to provide a friction fit to securely hold the outer ring. A cable may attach the housing to the clip.

The control assembly selectively engages the collet assembly to drive the collet nut and/or secure the spindle in a fixed position, preventing its rotation. In operation, a hand tool is utilized to engage the control assembly. This configuration enables a user to capture and release the rotary tool bit using one hand.

    Abstract: A power tong continuously rotates tubulars for spinning and torquing threaded connections. Continuous rotation is achieved through a rotating jaw having grippers that grip the tubular and continuously rotate with it. Hydraulic and electrical power necessary for actuating the grippers is generated on board. A serpentine belt system turns the motors of the on-board hydraulic power unit and electric generators to supply the grippers with hydraulic and electrical power. The serpentine belt system is driven by a secondary drive mounted on a fixed frame. The rotating jaw is rotatably mounted to the fixed frame and driven during continuous three hundred and sixty degrees of rotation by a primary drive, mounted on the fixed frame. A fixed jaw is also mounted to the frame. Tubular grippers on the fixed jaw grip a first side of a tubular joint. The grippers on the rotating jaw grip the opposite second side of the tubular joint. High torque low-rotational speed applied to the rotating jaw torques the joint.

The elongated shaft having a curved J-shape wherein a first portion of the elongated shaft is directed back towards the elongated body in a generally parallel arrangement to a second portion of the elongated shaft extending radially outward from the elongated body so that the first portion and the second portion of the elongated shaft cooperate to provide a thumb grip for increased leverage when turning the key. The elongated body, gear teeth, and handle being finished through an abrasive bead blasting process to round off all edges and surfaces.

    Abstract: The present invention uses a collar that fits over a nose and a locking cylinder of a chuck of the drilling machine. The collar has a cutout section to accommodate the chuck key including the key gear when it is engaged with the beveled gear of the locking cylinder. The collar has a first bore of a first diameter with is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the nose to provide a tight fit between the collar and the nose of the chuck. A fastener is used to attach the collar to the nose of the chuck. A second bore has a second diameter to fit over at least the beveled gear of the locking cylinder. The second diameter is large enough to provide a clearance so that the locking cylinder is free to rotate within the collar. Turning the chuck key about a key axis opens or closes the jaws of the chuck to grip or release a bit placed along a drill axis of the drilling machine.

    Abstract: The combination hanger and tool includes a stem which is provided at one end with a laterally enlarged structure and at the other end with a box end wrench (or other type of tool) having an aperture at the outer end thereof. The combination hanger and tool fits within the chuck of an electric drill with the lateral surfaces of the stem in engagement with the jaws of the chuck. The inner ends of the jaws are positioned adjacent the laterally enlarged structure which functions as a stop to prevent undesired relative movement between the stem and the jaws and thereby prevent separation of the combination hanger and tool from the chuck. When secured to the chuck, the aperture of the wrench is dimensioned to fit over a hook or peg thereby enabling the combination hanger and tool with the drill secured thereto to be hung from the hook or peg on a wall or other external structure. For chucks which require a key for operation thereof, one embodiment includes a chuck key mounted on the stem.

The key channel may have an inwardly converging handle clamp 67 and an inwardly converging key shank clamp 71 to securely and detachably retain the key 13 in the clip. For comfort and ease of use, thumb depressions 107, 109 may be formed in the outer surface of sidewalls 17, 19. Web 21 may contain openings 99, 101 opposite to a cord clamping means 27 formed in the cord channel 23. Openings 99, 101 result from the method for molding the clip in a mold movable only in a single direction (i.e. without side movement). The formation of inwardly converging clamps 27, 67 in the parallel cord and key channels 23, 61 in a mold 131 without side movement simplifies the manufacturing process and contributes to the low cost of clip 11.

    Abstract: A drill chuck key for use with a conventional Jacobs-type drill chuck includes a cylindrical shaft having a bevel gear secured adjacent one end. A knob has a central cylindrical boss receiving an opposite end of the shaft. A roll pin extends through aligned apertures in the boss and the shaft, securing the knob for rotation with the shaft. A circular ring is received with clearance on the shaft, between the bevel gear and the knob. The ring has a diameter less than the bevel gear and the cylindrical boss and greater than the shaft, such that the ring is captured on the shaft. A chain is connected to the ring for securing the drill chuck key to a selected mounting point. This arrangement allows rotation of the chuck key, without release of the securing chain.
