A lathe provided with an eccentricity adjustment mechanism, in which a linear motion guide unit (6) is provided in an inclined state in an engaging part of the center part of a turntable (1) and an axial-direction-movement part (5A) of a center shaft (5); and, due to the center shaft (5) being moved, the turntable (1) moves in the radial direction by the radial pressing force generated by the linear motion guide unit (6) being inclined, and the eccentricity of the workpiece (3) is adjusted.

In this example, the cutting is controlled by an engaging nut moving along a threaded portion of a drive shaft, and the two face plates may be spaced apart at a fixed distance to maintain the distance between the torque-stop surface and the primary surface after refacing. Also, the apparatus uses a locking pin to assist in tightening or loosening the mandrel into place using the remainder of the apparatus. An air-oil system is provided to supply air and oil to the cutting surfaces as the apparatus refaces the shoulders of the connection. An exemplary pin refacer and an exemplary box refacer are both disclosed.

However, the frictional force is insufficient to resist a lateral force applied parallel to the direction of sliding, as used during adjustment of the tool position. In another embodiment, either a surface of the sliding tool holder or a surface of a frictional member are contoured with a shape that corresponds to a desired contour of a sidewall of a hole. During machining, a follower in contact with the contoured surface causes the cutting tool holder to slide laterally during machining, thus contouring the sidewall of the hole.

A frictional force resists sliding movement of the cutting tool. The frictional force is sufficient to retain the position of the cutting tool during machining operations. However, the frictional force is insufficient to resist an adjusting force applied by the adjustment member. Sliding motion of the adjustment, either by pulling or pushing it, results in movement of the cutting tool. In one embodiment, the cutting tool and the adjustment member are slidable in different directions. In another embodiment, the boring tool is adapted and configured to convert a first, greater amount of movement by the adjustment member to a second, lesser amount of movement by the cutting tool.
